Is Lucas Bravo Leaving ‘Emily in Paris’? What He’s Saying About His Future With the Netflix Series

Could Emily (Lily Collins) extend her stay in Rome? Will Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) get another chance? Well, Emily and Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) breakup might be more permanent than fans of Emily in Paris expect.
Speaking to IndieWire, Bravo revealed that his contract only went up to Season 4. With the direction his character has taken, the actor confessed, “It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5.”
This comes after the Emily in Paris couple had a few seasons filled with will-they-won’t-they fun. In Season 4, the two decided to give it a real go, but after Gabriel’s meltdown over Emily not being able to speak French, they broke up, and Emily moved to Rome.
Bravo has noticed the shift in Gabriel’s character and doesn’t like it. “I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self,” he said. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into god knows what.”
Not ready to mince his words, the French actor acknowledged that he feels he is not being “nice” or grateful for the opportunity. He went on to say, “When you love something you want it to be…you want the best version of it.”
Bravo brought up how he believes the show has become afraid to take risks in the latest season. “Anything that could go off-road is carefully taken back. It’s a lot of souffles. Pregnant? No, fake positive. Going to Rome? No, coming back. There are a lot of things like that. There is a lack of risk,” he said.
The Ticket to Paradise alum mentioned that he doesn’t feel he can make suggestions to make Gabriel feel more like himself. He added, “There is only so much I can do in the limits of a script.”
Yet, when he thinks back to the beginning of his adventure on Emily in Paris, he saw so much of himself in Gabriel. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1, and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him,” Bravo told the outlet.
“In Season 1, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him.”
The Netflix rom-com has been renewed for Season 5, but it has yet to start filming. Do you think Bravo will leave the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
