You know what they say: First comes love, then comes a trial marriage with someone you just met.

In 2023, Netflix launch their first queer reality dating show, an LGBTQIA+ spinoff of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On. After two years, The Ultimatum: Queer Love returned to the streamer for a second season with an all-new cast of messy couples hoping to gain some clarity on their current relationships.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 featured six couples who were willing to risk everything in the name of love. Each couple had one partner who wanted to get married and another who was content with where they currently stand. To solve their dilemma, the marriage-ready partner issued an ultimatum to their significant other, definitively asking them to get married or walk away from their relationship for good.

Find out the post-season status of all six original couples from The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 below!

Haley & Pilar

Status: Engaged

While Haley and Pilar have been together for 10 years, Haley issued Pilar an ultimatum because she wants “an even deeper commitment.” During the trial marriages, Haley coupled up with Magan, and Pilar coupled up with Kyle.

During her three week trial marriage, Haley confessed her love to Magan. However, their relationship came to an abrupt end when Magan called off all communication once they entered trial marriages with their original partners. While Haley and Magan are not on speaking terms, Haley told Netflix, “[She and Magan] can both appreciate the growth we had during our time together because it’s made us better for our respective partners.”

Throughout the season, Pilar was candid about her parent’s inability to “endorse” her relationship with Haley. Now that she has been through the experience, Pilar is ready for marriage, even if her parents will not be at the wedding. As Haley put it, “We want to have a big beautiful wedding, but that takes time and planning, and I don’t want to wait to be official.” She added, “I did feel pretty safe being a queer person the last 10 years, but now to feel like all of that progress that was made is not being reflected in the path forward [in this country]. It does make me really concerned.”

Kyle & Bridget

Status: Engaged

Kyle and Bridget had been together for two and a half years after first meeting on a dating app. Kyle issued an ultimatum to Bridget. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized getting married is an important step for me,” Kyle admitted. However, Bridget didn’t really see the point in marriage. During their trial marriages, Kyle partnered with Pilar, and Bridget partnered with Ashley.

As of the Season 2 reunion, Kyle and Bridget are happily engaged. When asked about their experience, Bridget told Netflix, “Anything that we were upset about while on the show, we got over it.” Now, the couple is planning for an engagement party and their wedding.

According to Kyle, many of their most fundamental conversations as a couple did not make it into the show. Kyle shared, “You didn’t get to see the touching conversations, the growth that we had, and how Bridget came to the conclusion about her decision to be accepting of marriage.”

Ashley & Marita

Status: Split

Much like Kyle and Bridget, Ashley and Marita met on a dating app. After being together for three years, Ashley issued an ultimatum to Marita: “I want her to pick me and know I am enough.” According to Marita, she would not be able to do so until Ashley brought more romance into their relationship. During the trial marriages, Ashley coupled up with Bridget, and Marita coupled up with Britney.

During the reunion, Marita and Ashley shared an explosive conversation where they both accused each other of cheating while they were together. During an exclusive interview with Swooon, Marita claimed that Ashley had cheated on her with a mutual friend while she was with her family grieving the death of her late grandfather.

According to Ashley, when  Marita found out about her new relationship, “She flipped out on me, started bashing me, posting TikToks about me and blocking me on everything. I had no way to contact her. She went as far as blocking me on LinkedIn, everything.”

Marie & Mel

Status: Split

Together for four years, but in each other’s lives far longer, Mel admitted that she always had feelings for Marie but did not act on them until Marie came out. The couple went on to own a food truck together. As the ultimatum giver, Marie wanted to find her “direction” in life; however, Mel still felt like there were a few things they needed to “get in order” before settling down. During the trial marriages, Marie got together with AJ, and Mel got together with Dayna.

During their trial marriage, Mel and Dayna went as far as to get matching shamrock tattoos together. Following an incident involving their shared Spotify playlist, many cast members, including Marie, believed that Mel and Dayna had been physically intimate.

Marie and Mel revealed during the reunion that they had officially broken up a couple of months after the show. According to Mel, “I don’t think that [Marie] really is at a place where she doesn’t want anything to do with me. We still have a love for each other because, even before dating, we were friends for 10 years … We don’t remember what it’s like just being friends.” Marie has also stepped away from their food truck as the endeavor started with Mel.

AJ & Britney

Status: Engaged

Five years ago, Britney approached AJ at a club, and they have been inseparable every since. Britney gave AJ an ultimatum because she was “ready for the next chapter.” However, AJ was hesitant about a union because she worried that Britney would prioritize her career goals over their relationship. As trial marriages got underway, AJ coupled up with Marie, while Britney ended up with Marita.

Since leaving the show, AJ has announced, “Our relationship has literally soared.”As for Britney, she revealed to Netflix, “[We’re] just trying to get ourselves prepared to fuse our lives together. I want to start a family. I want to be a present partner.”

While many cast members questioned AJ’s behavior pre-trial marriages, Britney defended her partner in an exclusive interview with Swooon. She told us, “[AJ] was single, she let the dog off the leash, she was doing her thing.”

Dayna & Magan

Status: Engaged

Dayna and Magan met at a bar a year and a half before joining the cast of The Ultimatum: Queer Love. According to Dayna, she issued an ultimatum to Magan because she was “ready to be more serious and plan a future.” At the same time, Magan didn’t feel ready to fully accept Dayna into her traditional family. As part of the trial marriages, Dayna coupled up with Mel, and Magan partnered with Haley.

While Magan and Haley were one of the most successful trial marriages, Magan shared during the reunion that she was not in love with Haley, even though she did have love for her. While she has yet to start planning her wedding with Dayna, Magan is happily engaged.

As for Dayna, she stands firmly on the fact that she was not intimate with her trial wife Mel. While Dayna is still reconciling with her time on the show, she has spent time with Magan’s family and looks forward to continuing to build that relationship.
