Colin Firth Makes Surprise Return in ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Trailer (VIDEO)
Another Bridget Jones movie is on the way, and the fans of the series are thrilled to embark on another journey filled with questionable actions, London romance, and tons of second-hand embarrassment. However, there was one part of Helen Fielding’s third novel everyone was dreading ahead of the fourth installment. At least, that was the case until November 12.
After reports that Colin Firth wouldn’t appear in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, he made a surprise appearance in the first trailer. It’s still heavily insinuated that he won’t be a huge part of the story. Or at least his character, Mark Darcy, won’t physically be around for that long. But he’ll still be there in spirit, that’s for sure!
Mark died four years before the film’s current timeline. As it appears in the trailer, Mark will be present as a figment of Bridget Jones’ (Renée Zellweger) imagination. Trying to move on from her husband’s death, with two kids to raise on her own, she’s bound to get into some more shenanigans.
That is already heavily teased in the trailer when she forms connections with not just one potential lover but two. On top of that, her group of friends are there to support her, as well as Uncle Daniel.
You heard that right: Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) is back. He’s not dead after all. To no one’s surprise, he makes a reappearance in Bridget’s life, considering that they kind of gave it away that he escaped his fate in the credits of Bridget Jones’s Baby.
Grant is known for playing an arrogant publisher in the first movie, as well as its sequel, and remains a fan favorite. So, with the loss of Firth’s Mark, it’s good that he’s reentering the universe.
Now, another love triangle is ready to shake up Bridget’s world. Seemingly going back and forth between 29-year-old Roxster (Leo Woodall) and her kids’ teacher Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Bridget once again has a tough choice to make. Who do you reckon she’ll choose? The wise option or the youngster?
You won’t have to wait too long for the answer to be revealed, because as the trailer states, it’ll be released on Galentine’s Day, otherwise known as February 13.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, February 13, 2025, Peacock.
