‘XO, Kitty’ Cast Shares What They Learned About Love While Filming Season 2 (VIDEO)
Season 2 of the beloved teen-rom-com-meets-K-drama is nearly here, and Kitty Song Covey has a lot more on her plate than her Korean classes this upcoming semester. From new crushes to love polygons to questions of infidelity and family, these young adults have much to learn—and much to teach fellow young people about what it means to love others but more importantly yourself.
As Kitty (Anna Cathcart) continues to unravel her late mother’s early life in Korea, explore her sexuality, and grow her new friendships at KISS, she pursues the joys of prioritizing herself over her love life—that is until love becomes too hard to ignore. Others joining her again this season include her ex-boyfriend Dae (Choi Min-young), her crush Yuri (Gia Kim), her nemesis Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), Quincy “Q” (Anthony Keyvan), Juliana (Regan Aliyah), and Professor Alex Finnerty (Peter Thurnwald).
As the students are gearing up for another semester of kisses and misses, the cast spoke with Swooon about what they learned about love (its many complexities) while filming the upcoming season.
“Love and finding that is not a linear process by any means,” shared Keyvan, who portrays Q in Seasons 1 and 2 of the series. “There are going to be bumps in the road and things that you’re gonna learn from each partner that you have, and ultimately, you’re going to take things from those relationships and bring them into your next. And hopefully, be better in those relationships.”
Cathcart differentiated the various forms that love can take in one’s life, particularly through the lens of a character moving across the world to connect with her roots and uncover her family’s history.
“I think in this season Kitty really explored the concept that you can find love in so many different ways and so many different modalities,” said Cathcart.
“I think family love is really, really huge this season,” she continued. “And self-love is also really huge and her figuring out who she is and being confident in that…Also just love for her life and love for the school and for the world that she’s dived into and the life she created in Korea. Love can be in so many different ways that are not just romantic.”
Just like Kitty in the upcoming season, Cathcart noted that romantic love often seems like the obvious choice for young people to pursue but, in fact, it surrounds us in ways we don’t even realize.
“Kitty, of course, loves romantic love and we know that,” Cathcart explained. “But there’s so many other ways that love shows up in your life as well, and that’s just as worth embracing.”
