‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ Chimes In On ‘9-1-1’s Buck & Eddie Romance Debate

The Pop Culture Jeopardy! quarterfinals are well on its way, and one of the February 11 episodes included an exciting reference to everyone’s favorite duo from the hit-show 9-1-1.
Battling it out against each other were teams Only Winners in the Building, O’trivia Rodrigo, and Running Up That Chili. Going for the win, the teams put their competitive hat on and tried to win the game. At rapid fire pace, Only Winners in the Building were the first ones to choose the “Down With the ‘Ship” category. Host Colin Jost read the clue out loud, “Ardent fans of this ABC drama have been waiting for Buck & Eddie (or “Buddie”) to become more than co-workers.”
Pop Culture Jeopardy! recognizing the Buddie fandom is huge! Will the ABC firefighter drama ever go there with these two beloved characters? Only time will tell! Buddie fans say yes, while others believe these two are firmly just friends.
Patiently waiting until the buzzer rang, it became clear that no one knew the answer. Therefore, it was Jost who answered his own question, “What is 9-1-1?”
Not fazed by this unison let-down, Jessica Babbitt, who previously became a three-day Jeopardy! winner in 2020, headed back in for another round of “Down With the ‘Ship.” The next clue stuck to the procedural category, albeit from another network, NBC. This time, it was about “EO,” otherwise known as “Bensler.” Luckily, Running Up That Chili did know the answer to that, “What is SVU?”
Happy that someone got it right, Jost shared a joke, “Michael Che and I tried once to write Law & Order: UTI and instead of the detective being Ice-T, it was Cranberry Juice.” After a few chuckles, Pop Culture Jeopardy! continued. Eventually, it directed back to the “Down With the ‘Ship” vertical.
A throwback question, “The ‘ship between this title character played by Lucy Lawless & her sidekick Gabrielle was hinted at but never canon,” was immediately answered by Babbitt. She matter of factly and correctly stated Xena, Warrior Princess.
