‘White Lotus’ Star Carrie Coon Clarifies Comments About Marriage With Tracy Letts

The White Lotus and The Gilded Age star Carrie Coon raised eyebrows about her recent comments about her marriage to Tracy Letts. The actress was a guest on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast and discussed the freedom she has in her marriage.
Many took her comments to mean that she and Letts were in an open marriage. Since the podcast’s release, she has responded to listeners’ reactions. “It’s nice to be in a relationship where we can talk about who are you attracted to on set,” Coon told host Marc Maron.
She added, “Tracy’s the kind of person who sees, like, everybody on the street when he’s walking, and every woman. He notices every single woman on the street. He always tells me, like, who he has a crush on. We love talking about it. It’s fun.”
The Leftovers alum said it’s “interesting” and “titillating” to know what Letts is into. Maron asked the follow up, “But it doesn’t ever go over the line?”
Coon responded, “We don’t really like lines. Lines are really boring.”
The actress brought up how Letts and Maron had lost former partners suddenly. Letts’ former partner, Holly Wantuch, died suddenly in 1998 at the age of 33. Maron was dating director Lynn Shelton when she died of acute myeloid leukemia in 2020 at 54.
“Look, life is short,” Coon stressed before adding, “I think Tracy understood then from a very young age that he would never begrudge anyone a human experience.”
She said her husband has “embraced being a person of appetites and acknowledging that we have these proclivities.” She addressed the subject of monogamy as well. “Monogamy is sort of something we’ve imposed on ourselves. We were supposed to have babies and die when we were, like, 30. And that’s not the way life is anymore.”
Coon continued, “I think you have to be open-minded about what is… what engages you in the world and what sparks your imagination and where your passion is. I think if you’re willing to stay open to that then you’re living a more full life. I don’t think either one of us would want to keep the other from living. ”
The podcast episode went live on February 24. A day later, Coon clarified her comments about her marriage. “Settle down, internet! I said ‘open minded’ not ‘open.'”
