‘9-1-1’s Ryan Guzman Makes Rare Comment About Divorce & How Eddie’s Journey Mirrored His Own
Ahead of 9-1-1‘s midseason return, Ryan Guzman sat down for interview about his career, personal life, and even his love of mixed martial arts. Guzman, who plays Eddie Diaz in ABC’s firefighter drama, tends to keep his personal life out of the public eye, but he was an open book on this occasion.
During the honest conversation, Guzman got candid about his life after divorce. He split from Chrysti Ane, with whom he has two children, in 2023 after five years together. Guzman brought up a situation after his breakup that was almost exactly like something Eddie experienced after his split from his ex on the show.
“One thing that happened that was almost verbatim from one of the episodes, girls come up to Eddie and start trying to ask him… they’re showing their interest pretty much,” he said on the Zach Sang Show. “And he’s like, ‘Nah, I’m not your type right now.’ And he kind of just moves forward. That happened in my real life. I had just split up with my ex. We had just gotten a divorce. I’m trying to heal all my trauma and trying to do what I can for my kids. And then a beautiful lady comes up to me and runs up and asks me for my number and was like ‘No, you’ve got to please give me your number.'”
He continued, “And I don’t know how, it just came out of my mouth. And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not your type.’ And I’m like, no way. I just said what Eddie just said, the heck, what am I saying right now? An out of body experience. But I pulled from my character, which is crazy.”
Guzman revealed that Eddie’s line worked, and the woman was “respectful because she understood” he wasn’t ready to date so soon after his divorce. The actor acknowledged that he’s learned “a lot” from his 9-1-1 character.
After Guzman and Ane’s split, they deleted all photos of each other from their social media accounts. Guzman does not share photos of his kids, Mateo and Genevieve, with his Instagram mostly being dedicated to stylized photography.
