She may have been a day late, but Jenna Bush Hager still made sure to publicly acknowledge her husband, Henry Hager, in honor of their 17th wedding anniversary. The couple tied the knot on May 10, 2008, and Jenna paid tribute to Henry on Sunday, May 11.

Along with a photo from their wedding day, she wrote, “Been drying my tears for 17 years yesterday!” The picture featured the two at the altar, with Henry holding one of Jenna’s hands and wiping her eye with a tissue with the other.

Henry was working on Jenna’s father George W. Bush’s reelection campaign when the couple met in 2004. After just three months of dating, she drunkenly asked him to marry her. While Henry turned down the proposal, noting that Jenna was “so young” at the time, he popped the question himself three years later in August 2007.

Bush called Henry a “good guy” after the pair’s wedding in 2008, which was followed by them expanding their family five years later when their daughter Mila was born in April 2013. Daughter Poppy followed in August 2015, followed by son Hal in August 2019.

It was a weekend of celebrations for the Hager family, as Henry also turned 47 on May 9. “Happiest 4-7 to Henry! We love you so!” Jenna gushed in another Instagram post.

Plus, of course, May 11 was Mother’s Day. Jenna shared a photo of the sweet gesture Henry and the kids planned for her, which featured a plate of waffles with, “We [heart] Mom” written on it.

In March, Henry joined his wife on Today With Jenna & Friends as a guest cohost. She has been inviting in a rotation of guests to host the show with her ever since Hoda Kotb‘s departure in January, and fans loved seeing her and Henry together. While Henry was a bit hesitant to divulge too many details of their relationship, Jenna opened up about their first kiss, despite his reluctance.

“I’m just going to say it. It was to Little Troy to a song we can’t say on TV,” Jenna shared. “We were dancing, and all of a sudden you shot your shot.” Henry added, “Well, I don’t think we can say that on the Today a.m. hour television, but I went in for the kiss, yeah.”
