HGTV’s Chelsea & Cole DeBoer Reveal How Working Together Changed Their Marriage
Eleven years after Chelsea DeBoer and Cole DeBoer unexpectedly met at a gas station, the two are going strong. Not only are they married with three children, in addition to Chelsea’s teenage daughter from a previous relationship, but they’re also in business together.
The DeBoers run a design business in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which is featured on HGTV’s Down Home Fab. The show returns for Season 3 on May 27, and will feature the couple renovating homes while also taking on their newest venture: opening a store.
Working together has brought the reality stars “closer,” Chelsea tells Swooon. “It wouldn’t work for every marriage, and I totally get that,” she says. “It works for us. I think just being together all the time and going through all these experiences together has just made us closer.”
In addition to Down Home Fab, Chelsea and Cole also teamed up to compete on Season 6 of Rock the Block. “It’s a lot, but it’s a lot together, and we genuinely are having a good time,” the MTV alum admits. “We live in a state of being like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is the life we get to have? This is our job?’ I think if you remain in a positive attitude … things get hard sometimes, and it definitely gets stressful, but nothing is worse than what we can handle.”
Cole agrees, adding, “We’re just extremely grateful to be able to do this together. When a couple has two separate careers, it’s almost like you’re living two separate lives because you’re not enjoying the lows or the success together. But we get to live that every day. We’re very grateful for that.”
Chelsea and Cole tied the knot in 2016 and say that “staying humble” and “true to who [they] are” is what makes their marriage work. “I think it’s also that we’re way out here in South Dakota,” Chelsea adds. “We’re not in L.A., we’re not in New York. We’re in South Dakota, and I like our little bubble out here.”
