Even if you’ve never watched General Hospital, chances are, you’ve heard of Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), or might have been one of the 30 million people who tuned in to their memorable, headline-making 1981 wedding.

Despite its medical setting, GH has spent the past 62 years focusing less on broken bones and more on matters of the heart, and dozens of popular duos have walked the hospital hallways before walking down the aisle.

In honor of wedding season, and also in honor of Lucky’s (Jonathan Jackson) attempts to get Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) to marry him again, Swooon is saying “I do” to nostalgia by rounding up the 11 best General Hospital weddings from the past six decades. From candlelit vows to crashing exes, these ceremonies have delivered all the love, drama, and unforgettable moments soap fans love. Let us know your favorite GH wedding in the comments below.

General Hospital - Genie Francis as Laura Weber and Anthony Geary as Luke Spencer

11. Lucky Spencer & Elizabeth Webber

Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) and Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) pulled off the ultimate romantic gesture when they surprised high school sweethearts, Lucky (Greg Vaughan) and Liz, by organizing the fairytale wedding of their dreams at Wyndemere. The day was steeped in tradition and meaning, as Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman), Audrey (Rachel Ames), and Emily provided the bride with something old, new, borrowed, and blue. In a room lavishly festooned with candles and flowers, Lucky and Liz celebrated not just their love, but the long journey they’d taken to get there.

10. Sonny Corinthos & Carly Benson

It wasn’t exactly a meet-cute—their story kicked off with a steamy one-night stand while Carly (Sarah Brown) was still hitched to A.J. (Billy Warlock), who left her pregnant. But after she miscarried, Carly and Sonny grew closer, and he forced A.J. to divorce her. Carly then moved in with Sonny, and when she discovered incriminating evidence against the mob boss, the two tied the knot to prevent her from testifying against him. Their union may not have started as a love connection, but 25 years later, this on-again, off-again pair still has fans—and me!—rooting for their complicated, passionate love story.

9. Duke Lavery & Anna Devane

Long before Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) were a thing, GH had its own sizzling Scot/Brit pairing: Duke (Ian Buchanan) and Anna (Finola Hughes). When it came time for their wedding, the duo infused the ceremony with meaningful Scottish traditions. Duke wore a kilt; the officiant hailed from Scotland; Anna’s brooch was an actual family heirloom belonging to Buchanan; and a bagpiper played as they made their way out of the church. At the reception, Anna surprised Duke with two Scottish dancers who performed a Highland jig. It was a celebration as rich in culture as it was in romance.

8. Lois Cerullo & Ned Quartermaine

Shot on location in Brooklyn—the bride’s hometown—the second wedding of Ned (Wally Kurth) and Lois (Rena Sofer) had all the makings of a romantic do-over, until the chaos kicked in. A squirrel (you read that right) destroyed Lois’ wedding dress, the Quartermaine yacht nearly sank during a pre-wedding cruise, and Lois’s ex, Danny, made a last-ditch attempt to win her back. But in true soap fashion, true love prevailed, and with frayed nerves and full hearts, Ned and Lois sealed the deal.

7. Patrick Drake & Robin Scorpio

After the birth of daughter Emma interrupted their first chance at getting hitched, Patrick (Jason Thompson) and Robin (Kimberly McCullough)—lovingly dubbed “Scrubs”—finally said “I do” in a romantic, candlelit winter ceremony that perfectly captured the warmth of the holiday season. With their parents at their sides, Robin, whom viewers watched grow up, and Patrick, the former ladies’ man turned devoted partner, exchanged heartfelt personal vows. It was a ceremony of love and just what the doctors ordered.

6. Alan Quartermaine & Lucy Coe

When Alan (Stuart Damon) and Lucy’s (Lynn Herring) affair was spectacularly exposed—by his wife, Monica (Leslie Charleson), no less—the scandal didn’t just rock their personal lives, it threatened the entire Quartermaine empire. Alan had no choice but to make his mistress his new wife and Lucy, ever the opportunist, leapt at the chance with visions of dollar signs and high society dancing in her head. But what truly made this wedding unforgettable? A mix-up at the dress shop left Lucy with no choice but to don a crimson ensemble as she pledged her troth.

5. Frisco Jones & Felicia Cummings

All we needed was to see these two say “I do,” but Felicia (Kristina Wagner) called off the wedding the day before, afraid she couldn’t handle the realities of Frisco’s (Jack Wagner) life as a cop. Felicia quickly had a change of heart, but the plans were already undone, so friends and family came together to transform Bobbie’s brownstone into a romantic garden oasis. With a radiant Felicia in a Spanish-style lace gown and mantilla, a nod to her Aztec heritage, and Frisco in his dress police uniform, they finally exchanged vows in a ceremony that felt tender and timeless. And am I the only one who got chills when they walked beneath an arch of raised batons held by Frisco’s fellow cadets and danced to “Lady of My Heart” at the reception?

4. Sam McCall & Jason Morgan

When all their carefully planned wedding arrangements—courtesy of Maxie Jones— completely unraveled, Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) hopped on his motorcycle to clear their heads and ended up at the Noodle Buddha in Port Charles’ Asian Quarter. There, they learned the restaurant owner’s grandson was also an ordained minister, and without missing a beat, decided to exchange vows on the spot in the garden terrace. For a couple who thrived on adventure and shared a deep, quiet love, the spontaneous ceremony was the perfect blend of romance, intimacy and connection.

3. Sean Donely & Tiffany Hill

In one of GH’s more delightful weddings, superspy Sean Donely (John Reilly) and B-movie actress Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt) planned a lavish affair that featured more laughs than tears. The elegance quickly gave way to comedy when the officiant revealed Tiffany’s real name—Elsie Mae Crumholtz—sending Sean into uncontrollable giggles at the altar. He still managed to say “I do,” and it’s debatable who was more amused—the groom or the audience. It was proof that even the most glamorous weddings can have their perfectly imperfect moments.

Leslie Horan as Miranda, Maurice Benard as Sonny, Vanessa Marcil as Brenda, Ingo Rademacher as Jax on 'General Hospital'

Jim Ober / ABC / Everett Collection

2. Jasper “Jax” Jacks & Brenda Barrett

Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) and Jax’s (Ingo Rademacher) second wedding packed a soapy punch. After eloping on the same day that Brenda’s ex, Sonny Corinthos, lost his wife, Lily (Lilly Melgar), in a car explosion meant for him—clink-boom, anyone?—Brenda and Jax decided to make it more official with a formal affair at the Quartermaine manse. Wedding crasher Sonny arrived with an even bigger wedding crasher in tow: Jax’s not-so-dead wife, Miranda (Leslie Horan). Not only was Jax and Brenda’s marriage declared invalid, but any chance Sonny had at winning Brenda back seemed to up in smoke—especially after she greeted him with a slap to the face heard ‘round Port Charles.

1. Luke Spencer & Laura Webber Baldwin

It was the soap wedding of the century when Luke and Laura became husband and wife at the mayor’s mansion, and 30 million people—including me at the orthodontist’s office!— tuned in. Filmed on location in Los Angeles, the day featured a very special guest star in the form of Elizabeth Taylor as Helena Cassadine, who cast a curse over the happy couple. Despite the looming drama, Luke and Laura exchanged vows in a classic, heartfelt ceremony surrounded by friends and family. Just when it looked like everything was going to go off without a hitch, Laura tossed her bouquet, only for her ex, Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), to catch it. After Luke calmed his teary bride, the duo hopped in their car with a “Just Married” sign, sealing a moment that would become daytime TV legend.
