Author Carley Fortune has become a mainstay in the romance genre, and now she’s making her way into the world of television. She just published her fourth book, One Golden Summer, and two of her novels, Every Summer After and Meet Me at the Lake, have adaptations in the works. Prime Video announced the Every Summer After TV series adaptation in July 2024 and confirmed a surprising change.

The show would be called Every Year After instead of sticking to Every Summer After. Fortune revealed to Swooon why Prime Video didn’t keep the original title.

“The thinking behind that was that Every Summer After was like too confining as a season for a series, and Every Year After allowed them to open this up to a broader story,” Fortune said.

Given the name change, could we see One Golden Summer incorporated into the Every Year After series? “I mean, I would love to see Alice and Nan on the screen, she said.

Every Summer After revolves around the second chance romance between Sam Florek and Percy Fraser as they reconnect in Barry’s Bay, the place where they grew up and first fell in love. One Golden Summer, which is a Swooon romance book best seller, follows Charlie Florek, Sam’s older brother, as he finds true love at the lake.

As for Meet Me at the Lake, which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s production company, Archewell Films, purchased the film rights to, Fortune told Swooon that the film adaptation is “still in development, so that is moving along really nicely behind the scenes. There’s a beautiful script. It’s moving along.”

Fortune cherishes the characters and the moments she’s created in her novels. The author revealed there are certain scenes she’s adamant about keeping in the adaptations.

“With Every Summer After, for me, that is, ‘You came home.’ When Sam says, ‘You came home,’ that is so, so important, and then with Meet Me at the Lake, it has a really important mental health storyline that is really important to me to make sure that’s in there,” Fortune noted.
