Tracy Ifeachor might not have been able to say if she’ll be back for The Pitt Season 2 during TV Insider’s Scene Study, dissecting the key ambulance scene in which Collins reveals to Robby (Noah Wyle) that she was pregnant when they were together and chose not to have the baby, but she does know what she’d like to explore with her character in the future. And it involves that past relationship.

“I love this, and I don’t think it’s soapy, but some people may think it is, but I love to see a little will they/won’t they? We’re all looking to be known by someone, and some of us find that and some of us don’t, and some of us continue to search. And I think that’s part of life and it’s wonderful,” Ifeachor explained. “So having someone who you have a history with who knows you and gets you, to come home to at the end of the day is so wonderful.”

The aforementioned ambulance scene in Season 1 Episode 11 is, she said, “the first time we start to see them actually have a conversation” and their “real, lovely connection.” It’s something she’d love to see more of.

There were little bits sprinkled throughout Season 1 leading up to that big moment. That scene included little moments she enjoyed, including Robby noting that he’d never known Collins to give up on anything except for him. “When [Wyle] added that, I was like, ‘How would I respond to that? It’s not going to be through anger because there’s been time that’s passed.’ I decided, ‘No, she’s going to think, this man, this man,'” Ifeachor shared. “But that’s part of the joy that they had together when they were in a relationship that they could push each other’s buttons and they really, really knew each other. I love the little leg tap, knee tap, elbow tap that we do in this moment. And when he comes to talk to her and before he sits down, it’s like an invitation and they made the decision that she’s going to invite him to sit down and invite him to be in this moment of complete vulnerability with her.”

While we didn’t see or hear much about their past relationship onscreen, for Ifeachor, what’s important to know is, “They really do get each other and they actually do want the best for one another.”

As for whether she thinks the exes could have a future together, Ifeachor noted, “It’s an ever-changing thing, isn’t it? It’s like anything where emotion has been involved and when you’ve been really close to someone and thought you might have a future with them and then for whatever reason it doesn’t work out. You think you are over that person or over that friendship or over that experience, and then you get a kind of a trigger and they’re so lovely in one moment or they are all the things that they never were in your relationship. They’re present, they’re listening… I think maybe she’s just taking care of herself right now. I think that’s probably the best way to put it. I never like to rule anything out or in, I always think it’s nice to have a certain level of uncertainty. The best art lives, in my opinion, in uncertainty.”
