In 2025, Apple TV+ greenlit a book-to-TV adaptation of The Husbands. Now, over a year later, a full cast of husbands has joined Juno Temple in the developing series, including stars of The 100, Hamnet, Barbie, and more.

The 8-episode comedic drama series will closely follow the plot of Holly Gramazio’s bestselling debut novel of the same name. According to the press release, the series will be produced by A24, the studio behind EuphoriaBeefMaterialists, Midsommar, and more.

Per the press release, The Husbands will follow Lauren, a single woman who returns home to her husband, Michael. When is The Husbands coming to Apple TV+?

Right now, there is no release date for The Husbands on Apple TV+. Filming hasn’t started just yet, so a 2027 premiere is likely.

The Husbands has a top-tier team of executive producers, including lead writer Miriam Battye (Succession), lead director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), Annie Marter (The Devil All the Time), and author Holly Gramazio.

Who has been cast in The Husbands?

Leading The Husbands as the unexpected wife, Lauren, is Juno Temple. The actress is best known for portraying the role of Keeley Jones on Apple TV’s hit comedy Ted Lasso. When Apple TV+ announced that Temple had joined the show, Gramazio posed on social media: “Some pretty silly news! So so so excited about this, and not totally sure I’m not making it up: @a24 are making a tv show of “The Husbands” for @appletv, with @junotemple as Lauren and @itsmiriamm writing the script and Craig Gillespie as lead director. What an AMAZING dream ridiculous bunch of brilliant people, what a deeply weird turn of events.”

Joe Alwyn attends the Charles Finch & Chanel 2026 pre-BAFTA Party at 5 Hertford Street Club on February 21, 2026 in London, England; Richard Gadd attends The 85th Annual Peabody Awards at Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel on June 01, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California; Kingsley Ben-Adir attends the 56th NAACP Image Awards at Pasadena Civic Auditorium on February 22, 2025 in Pasadena, California.

On April 9, Deadline announced that Joe Alwyn (Hamnet), Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Barbie), Joel Kinnaman (For All Mankind), Daniel Ings (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Bob Morley (The 100), and Fehinti Balogun (Down Cemetery Road) all joined the cast as Lauren’s husbands. Right now, it has not been revealed who will be playing which husband, including fan-favorite roles like Bohai, Michael, and Carter.

As for characters who don’t appear in the attic, Tom Basden (The Ballad of Wallis Island), Joe Wilkinson (After Life), Gemma Whelan (Gentleman Jack), Rebekah Murrell (One Day), and Shazad Latif (Wuthering Heights) have all been cast as well. While their roles have also not been confirmed, we’d suspect that among them are Lauren’s neighbors, Maryam and Toby, her friend, Elena, and her sister, Nat.

What is The Husbands on Apple TV+ about?

The Husbands is about a single woman who receives a seemingly endless supply of husbands from her attic. The official description from Apple TV+ reads: “When Lauren (Temple) returns home to her flat in London late one night, she is greeted at the door by her husband, Michael. There’s only one problem — she’s never seen this man before in her life. As Lauren tries to puzzle out how she could be married to someone she can’t remember meeting, Michael goes to the attic to change a lightbulb and abruptly disappears. In his place, a new husband emerges. Realizing that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands, Lauren confronts the question: If swapping lives is as easy as changing a lightbulb, how do you know you’ve taken the right path? When do you stop trying to do better and start actually living?”

As readers of the novel, we are incredibly eager to see such an original story hit the small screen. From Gramazio’s philosophical humor to Temple’s proven ability to bring iconic characters to life, we’re certain that The Husbands has the makings of a major hit.
