After taking a hiatus in 2024, Bachelor in Paradise is back with some big changes. Not only is there a new showrunner, but the series is being filmed in a new location, and the filming style is quite different from what we’ve seen in the past.

Following the July 7 premiere, there have been mixed reactions to the new format online. One person who isn’t feeling the changes is Tanner Tolbert, who met his now-wife, Jade Roper, on Bachelor in Paradise Season 2.

Bachelor in Paradise is now ‘TEMU Love Island,'” Tolbert wrote on his Instagram Story. He then dove into his specific thoughts about the first episode.

“These new producers are just trying to copy Love Island but executing it poorly,” Tolbert wrote. “The new location is silly. Either get a badass villa if ur gonna copy Love Island, or stay in ‘paradise.’ This generic resort falls short somewhere in the middle. Very stale feeling.”

The show was previously filmed in Mexico, but moved to a new resort in Costa Rica for Season 10. Love Island is filmed at a villa in Fiji.

Tolbert touched on the filming style next, adding, “The dream scenes are so cheesy and forced.” Reverting back to the location, he then said, “Having the cast stay in separate hotel rooms is dumb. Limits the amount of interaction/discussion between castmates.”

However, he ended on a more positive note. “Still hopeful that this cast can produce some good storylines and relationships but this format feels meh.” One of the changes to the format this season is putting the relationships to the test with weekly challenges to determine if the couples that have formed are actually meant to be, which is an element from other dating shows that Bachelor in Paradise hasn’t fully tapped into in the past.

Of course, one of the biggest additions to Season 10 will also be the arrival of the Golden cast members in Episode 3, but we’ll have to wait and see how that one plays out.
