Minka Kelly took to Instagram on Monday, July 14, to pay tribute to her boyfriend on his 38th birthday. Her touching message to her man sparked a conversation about her love life.

Kelly is dating Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds. The two were photographed together for the first time in November 2022 and have been going strong ever since.

How did Minka Kelly and Dan Reynolds meet?
Kelly and Reynolds met through a mutual friend. He was fresh off a separation from his wife of 11 years and she was filming a project in England, so they spent a month talking on the phone before ever meeting in person.
Reynolds began sending Kelly some of his new Imagine Dragons music, and she returned the favor by sending him excerpts from her 2023 memoir. “She’s like, ‘Well, if you’re going to share your art, I can share something with you, but it’s very vulnerable for me. Do you want to do this or not?’” Reynolds told People in 2024. “She was very scared for me to read the book because we hadn’t met, just as much as I was scared for her to hear a song that I’d written. But we shared it and then it ended up being a really beautiful thing and brought us a lot closer. I think it helped us both kind of understand each other on a deeper level quite quickly.”
The singer called it a “really strange and awesome way to meet someone,” noting that he was “hearing all her life stories from youth to now, and she had a really hard, colorful, beautiful life.” He also added, “Getting to read it all before you even meet somebody … I’ve never had that kind of introduction to someone.”
Do Dan Reynolds and Minka Kelly have kids?
No, Reynolds and Kelly do not have children together, but he shares four children (three daughters and a son) with ex-wife Aja Volkman. Kelly praised her partner’s parenting in her birthday tribute.
“Watching him father and love his babies. Honoring and respecting their beautiful mother. Doing everything he can to be absolutely everything everyone needs from him. Finding ways every day to light up the lives of the ones so lucky enough to be loved by him,” she gushed. “His benevolence, his priorities, his values, and his honesty are all rooted in love. Reynolds and Volkman share custody of the four kids after their divorce, which was finalized in 2024.
