What To Know

  • A new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood.
  • Focus Features announced the theatrical release date in November 2025.
  • Actress Fiona Shaw recently revealed that filming had wrapped on the remake.

We’ll never say no to another Jane Austen adaptation. Earlier this year, we found out that a Pride and Prejudice miniseries is in the works at Netflix, and now, Sense and Sensibility is getting the remake treatment as well. Austen’s first novel is becoming a film once again, with Normal People‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones leading as the practical Elinor Dashwood. The Sense and Sensibility team decided to give us an early holiday treat — the movie’s release date!

There’s still a significant amount of time before we see how Edgar-Jones’ performance compares to Emma Thompson‘s in the beloved 1995 version, but not too long. In November 2025, Focus Features announced the release date of the remake. The news comes days after star Fiona Shaw revealed that filming had recently wrapped.

“It was filmed by the really lovely Georgia Oakley, who is very assured,” she said in a November interview with The Guardian. “And we filmed in these beautiful houses around Britain, including in Dorset, Knebworth and Devonshire. The scale was thrilling. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a carriage with four horses. Although the truth of swanning about in posh houses is that you’re 13 hours in a corset and wigs, but I’m sure the outcome will be well worth it.”

While you wait for the movie to arrive in theaters, you can dive into all things Sense and Sensibility in the meantime. Keep reading for everything we know about the upcoming project, which includes the cast list, director, and more.

What is Sense and Sensibility about?

Austen’s first book is a satirical coming-of-age story centered around 19-year-old Elinor and 17-year-old Marianne. After their father dies, their down-and-out family moves to a cottage in the countryside, and they have to deal with their change in status. Elinor, who embodies “sense” and leads with her head, falls in love with Edward. Marianne, who follows her heart, is torn between Willoughby and the older Colonel Brandon.
