Listen up, A Court of Thorns and Roses fans! We have a new contender to play the High Lord of the Night Court.

Ever since the news dropped that a TV adaptation of Sarah J. Maas‘ romantasy series is in the works, fans have offered a number of casting suggestions for Rhysand. It’s proved a difficult task — not just anyone can play the powerful and mysterious leading man — but Outlander: Blood of My Blood star Jamie Roy is ready to throw his hat in the ring.

The Scottish actor, who’s a new fan of ACOTAR books, told Swooon that he’s more than willing to take on the role if it comes his way. “I think that’s such an amazing character,” Roy said at San Diego Comic Con. “It would be a lot of fun.”

Roy added that he recently had a conversation with someone about the similarities between his character in the Outlander prequel, Brian Fraser, and Rhysand. “You know, they’re both tortured souls in their own respect,” he explained. “Rhysand has a bit more of an edge to him, but, yeah, I would love to play Rhysand.”

When it comes to Maas’s fictional universe, Roy knows his stuff. In fact, he recalled one of Rhysand’s most popular quotes — “To the stars who listen and the dreams that are answered.” — in A Court of Mist and Fury as a moment that stood out to him. (Fun fact: The actor was in the midst of reading the ACOTAR series when he visited our studio a few months ago.)

“I was in… Like, you could feel it,” the actor said of the scene, which takes place in Chapter 34. Rhysand says it in the middle of a vulnerable conversation with Feyre after their visit to the Summer Court. “It was so beautiful. So that sold it for me.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Roy or anyone else will bring the High Lord to life — the adaptation has been stuck in development limbo for a few years — but we’re certainly adding Roy to list of potential Rhysands. In the meantime, the romantasy-loving actor plans on reading Maas’ Throne of Glass series next, after he finishes up author Rebecca Yarros’ Onyx Storm.

“I love just escaping into a world where anything’s possible,” he said of the genre. We see you, Jamie!
