The year is 2016: Hamilton is all the rage, chokers are the peak of fashion, Damn Daniel is back at it again with the white Vans, and fandoms have taken over the internet. You, specifically, reside on Tumblr, as the admin of unofficial Throne of Glass character blog, where you spend your days role-playing with other devoted Sarah J. Maas fans. That’s when the news hit: a pilot episode for Throne of Glass was being developed for TV.
Back in 2016, Throne of Glass dream casts mostly consisted of actors from the CW’s Reign, sprinkled with the rare addition of an MCU or Game of Thrones star. But that was nearly 10 years ago and much like the fandom, the original actors we had envisioned stepping into these beloved characters have grown. Even though the Throne of Glass adaptation never made its way to our TV screens, the SJM renaissance is here, and Swooon is holding out hope. So, we invite you to join us in taking a look back at Celaena’s battle for freedom in the book that started it all.
It’s hard to believe that Maas, the legendary romantasy author behind A Court of Thorns and Roses, began her first series, Throne of Glass, in a land without magic. When we first meet Celaena Sardothien, a young assassin imprisoned in the Salt Mines of Endovier, her life is anything but enchanted. Summoned to the glass castle by the Crown Prince, Celaena joins a slew of murderers, warriors, and thieves in a cutthroat competition, fighting to become the King’s Champion and, in turn, win her freedom. Capturing a first glimpse into Erilea and the rest of the SJM universe that millions of readers have grown to love, Throne of Glass has everything from a page turning mystery to a Swooon-worthy love triangle.
While readers of the full series know that the Throne of Glass universe expands far beyond the castle walls, we’re keeping this dream cast spoiler free. That means, below you will find our picks for five of the most iconic characters featured in the first book of the Throne of Glass series. But, let us know in the comments below if you would like to see our picks for the characters we meet later on in the books.
Without any further ado, here are our picks for the original Throne of Glass trio and a couple more of the characters we meet at the glass castle.
Comment below with what you think of our dream cast and who you would pick to play these characters!

Elle Fanning as Celaena Sardothien
Celaena Sardothien is the quick-witted assassin at the heart of the Throne of Glass series. While she may be a cunning killer, feared by many, readers have gotten to know her as a young woman who knows her worth and isn’t afraid to come across as vain. When Celaena is brought to the castle, it’s (understandably) hard for her to resist the charm of both the prince and the captain of the guard leading. In casting Adarlan’s most notorious assassin, we wanted to find an actress who could balance the action of fighting in the King’s competition with the romance of SJM’s original love triangle. For that reason, we picked Elle Fanning, whose wide roster of action-packed fantasy and lovable rom-coms make her the perfect choice for our Throne of Glass heroine.

Guy Remmers as Dorian Havilliard
Dorian Havilliard is the Crown Prince who sponsors Celaena in the King’s Competition. Dorian starts off the series as a typical heartbreaker, but over time, readers see him melt into a compassionate leader. Looking for an actor who perfectly matched Dorian’s raven hair and icy blue eyes was no easy task, but we’re confident we’ve found the guy to take on the role. We’ve chosen Guy Remmers from The Buccaneersto step into the role of Dorian. Not only does he have the perfect princely vibe, but we know that Remmers can wear his heart on his sleeve and play a sensitive romantic lead.

Khobe Clarke as Chaol Westfall
For all of the English majors out there who love a good character analysis, it’s important to know that when Chaol is introduced, he is clearly Celaena’s foil. Where she is impulsive and arrogant, he is meticulous and loyal. To serve as our brooding Captain of the Guard, we’ve chosen Cruel Intentions star Khobe Clarke. While his past roles have been clean cut, we can totally see Clarke absolutely rocking the rugged swordsman look.

Arsema Thomas as Nehemia Ytger
Nehemia Ytger is the Princess of the neighboring country, Ellwye, sent to form a political alliance with Adarlan. The only catch is, Nehemia doesn’t speak the same language as everyone else in court. That is, until Celaena enters the castle. For Nehemia, we’ve selected Arsema Thomas, best known for her role of young Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte. Based on her performance in the Bridgerton franchise, Thomas has a proven capability to perform as both an elegant member of court and a trustworthy friend.

Sarah Desjardins as Kaltain Rompier
Kaltain Rompier is brought to the castle by a Duke who is looking to secure her hand in marriage. Kaltain, of course, has other plans. She’s come to the castle with her sights on Dorian instead. Our pick for the incomparable Kaltain Rompier is Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins, whose capability to empathetically play the mean girl archetype would translate perfectly to this complex role.
