Almost 30 years after viewers were introduced to Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), her time in the spotlight has come to an end. The And Just Like That series finale aired on August 14 and wrapped up the storylines of Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and the rest of their friends.

Carrie pined after Big (Chris Noth) throughout Sex and the City’s run, married him (after his unforgivable wedding drama) in Sex and the City: The Movie, and then mourned him in And Just Like That after his Peloton-induced heart attack. Carrie entertained love again, mainly with former flame Aidan (John Corbett), but she ended the series on her own, twirling in a tulle skirt like she did all those years ago. So, how does Parker feel about Carrie’s fate?

When asked if she liked the decision of Carrie ending up on her own, Parker told The New York Times, “Absolutely.” However, the actress is still uncertain about how she feels about saying goodbye to the iconic character she’s played for so long. “I don’t know what it means yet, and I’m not sure I will for some time,” she admitted.

Similar to showrunner Michael Patrick King, Parker felt this was the right time to bring this chapter to a close. “Because that’s where the story ended. We could have gone on doing coffee shops. There’s a million ways to do it that are easy and familiar and fun, but feel exploitative to us,” she said. “We felt this was the honorable thing to do. It’s very easy to stay. It’s where we’re all happy. But you have to be principled when you make these very difficult, agonizing decisions because there’s a lot of people who are affected.”

If the show had gone on, one thing’s for sure: Carrie wouldn’t end up with Aidan. “And I love John Corbett, I adore him. But I did not think she would end up with him. And Michael didn’t think that or want that either,” Parker dished.

As for how she envisions Carrie’s life in the future, Parker said, “I think it would be pretty rich, in terms of friendships and culture and travel and the ways in which the children of her friends are in her life. I feel good about her. I think she’s set up pretty well.”
