‘Off Campus’ Boss Promises Season 1 Will Have ‘Steamy’ Sex Scenes Like the Book
Off Campus fans, get ready to swoon!
Entertainment Weekly has revealed several exclusive photos from the upcoming Prime Video show, which is based on Elle Kennedy’s college hockey romance series of the same name. But even though the shots of hockey captain Garrett (Belmont Cameli) and musician Hannah (Ella Bright) lean more sweet than steamy, creator and co-showrunner Louisa Levy has assured fans that the show will be as hot as its source material.
“There’s something really unique and special about college-age romances where it’s not really that first love kind of vibe, it is something potentially more, and you’re still discovering so much about yourself,” Levy told EW. “It’s more mature and sexier than high school.”
The showrunner noted that especially in the case of Kennedy’s first book — the show follows 2015’s The Deal — the characters are sex-positive. “It’s this really deep romance that also has nuances of exploring who you are in the bedroom,” she added. “There’s really lovely elements to who you want to be as a human that gets reflected in the steamy sex scenes that we have coming up this season.”
Book fans already know that the story sees Hannah and Garrett make, well, a deal. She tutors the hockey player, and in exchange, he pretends to be in a relationship with her, with the goal of making Hannah’s crush jealous. “As they get to know each other over the course of the season, they discover that each of them is more than the meets the eye,” Levy teased.
The characters’ secret pasts are unpacked by each other, the showrunner explained. “That’s ultimately what makes them so right for each other; they see each other on a deeper level than the rest of the world sees them, and that lays the groundwork for a really interesting, mature romance,” she said.
Their “mature romance” includes quite a few fan-favorite moments, intimate and otherwise, and Levy confirmed that the Off Campus team wants to honor the book to the best of their ability. However, she warned that it might not be a completely accurate adaptation.
“So there are some moments that I’m sure the fans will be very excited to see that we are not able to dramatize or find a way to do that to the full length,” she explained, adding that fans should still expect book Easter eggs and plot points. Levy made sure to note that Hannah and Garrett’s most important moments will be included, just maybe “in a way you don’t expect.”
