Mel Owens will be looking for love in Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor, but before he became a reality television star, he was married for nearly two decades. Owens’ ex-wife, whom he called his “first love,” is Fabiana Pimentel.

Owens married Pimentel on May 17, 2002, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly. He was in his 40s when they tied the knot. Pimentel filed for divorce in 2020, so the two were married for about 18 years before separating. Daily Mail reported that the divorce was not finalized until December 2024.
Before settling down and getting married, Owens played nine seasons of professional football with the Los Angeles Rams, then began working as a financial advisor and started studying to become a lawyer. He passed the bar exam in 2003, not long after his wedding to Pimentel.

Pimentel cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce filing. Daily Mail reported that Owens was ordered to pay his ex-wife $980,000 in the divorce settlement, although Pimentel waived her rights to ongoing alimony or spousal support.
The amount was determined by “unpaid child and spousal support that accumulated over time, potential child and/or spousal support owed after December 2024, the division of non-retirement community property assets and debts, prior monetary sanction against [Owens] by the court, and contribution to Fabiana’s attorney fees and costs.”
Owens got to keep the family home in Orange County, California, per the divorce settlement.
