‘The Golden Bachelor’s Mel Owens Makes Rare Comments About Divorce From Ex-Wife

Mel Owens isn’t shying away from being vulnerable. During the October 1 episode of The Golden Bachelor, the 66-year-old former NFL player had one-on-one time with Nicolle Kate after a group date, and she asked him about his first marriage.
Before he was chosen to lead The Golden Bachelor Season 2, Mel was previously married to Fabiana Pimentel. They welcomed two sons, Lucas and Andre, before splitting up in February 2020. Mel shared rare details about his divorce and who chose to end the marriage.
“I had one marriage, right? And it lasted total 25 years,” Mel told Nicolle. She followed up with Mel and asked if he thought the marriage would last the rest of his life. “Well, I took the vow,” Mel said.
Mel admitted that his ex-wife was the one who “decided” to end the marriage. “She was younger, and she wanted to experience other things,” he added. The Michigan native revealed that Fabiana presented him with the divorce papers, and he didn’t fight her on it.
He called his divorce a “heart-wrenching” experience. “It was really, really painful,” Mel told Nicolle. However, the situation didn’t make him turn away from marriage in the future. Mel stated that he would get married again if the right woman came along.
Fabiana filed for divorce from Mel in 2020 and his father died the same year. “She had found someone new. I was shocked,” Mel said in the Season 2 premiere.
Before digging into Mel’s personal life, Nicolle told him that she’d been married twice before. “I no longer think of my two divorces as failures,” she explained. Nicolle called her ex-husbands “really great men,” but she wants “one more marriage that lasts forever. Nicolle and Mel’s emotional conversation earned her a rose. “She’s definitely a person I could see in my life,” he said after the date.
