We’re going to be dreaming of In Your Dreams until we can get our hands on the book on December 30. (In the meantime, read our exclusive excerpt of Chapter 1!) Author Sarah Adams hasn’t been shy about how much she loves Madison and James — she’s declared them her “favorite couple” in her Rome, Kentucky, book series — so it’s a guarantee that their love story will be truly unforgettable.

In Your Dreams is also the end of an era for the best-selling author. The romance novel marks her fourth and final book in the Rome series. But fear not, Adams is hard at work on her next book. The author spoke with Swooon about Madison and James’ romance, if she’d return to Rome, and more.

Plus, the In Your Dreams author will be one of the special guests at Dell Romance’s Cozy Night In event at The Ripped Bodice on October 28. Swooon will also be there! You can order a signed copy online and join the waitlist for the event here.

Why did you save Madison and James’ love story for the last book in your Rome, Kentucky, series?

Sarah Adams: Short answer: Because they were the characters I was most excited about writing. I also felt like they needed time to let their relationship develop in a way that would be a more rewarding payoff for series readers.

Would you ever consider returning to the series down the road?

Adams: This is probably not the answer readers are hoping for, but my time in Rome will end with the series. I have LOVED this world and these characters, and I’m going to miss it so much — but I also feel like it’s ending exactly how it should. I feel great about where it’s closing up.

You recently posted about your next chapter. Is there anything you can tease about that?

Adams: I can’t say much – but I can tell you it’ll be my very first standalone!

What was the first love story you fell in love with? (Can be literary, TV, movies, etc.)

Adams: Rory and Jess [from Gilmore Girls] were the first couple I felt truly obsessed with — and consequently, devastated by!

What makes you swoon?

Adams: When my husband brings me snacks without me asking for them. :)

What’s your best advice for aspiring romance authors?

Adams: Don’t be afraid to take your time, and also rest when you need it so you can write the book you love and enjoy the process.
