What To Know

  • Bridgerton author Julia Quinn has seen all of Season 4’s episodes.
  • The writer teases why book fans will love Benedict and Sophie’s love story onscreen.
  • She also opens up about the “magical” masquerade ball.

Bridgerton book fans are sure to take comfort from author Julia Quinn’s reaction to Season 4, as the author recently got candid about having already seen the full season.

The writer, who spoke to WBZ News, a CBS affiliate, shared, “I have seen the whole season, and I think it’s amazing, I think people are gonna love it, I really do.” As die-hard fans of the Netflix hit from Shondaland already know, Season 4 is set to release in two parts beginning on Thursday, January 29, 2026, with four installments.

Based on Quinn’s third novel in the Bridgerton book series, Season 4 takes inspiration from An Offer From a Gentleman, the story of the second-eldest brother, Benedict (Luke Thompson), and his romance with Sophie (Yerin Ha), whose last name has been changed from Beckett in the book to Baek for the show to reflect Ha’s Korean heritage.

“It is probably closer to the book than the other seasons, which is fun for me,” Quinn added. “I’m just excited for everyone to see it. I think you all will love it.”

In An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict meets the mysterious Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball, only to lose track of her, unaware that it was Sophie going undercover at the event. In actuality, Sophie is from a different class entirely, working as a servant. This element of the story has been teased for Season 4, but in the book, Benedict remains in the dark regarding Sophie’s identity as the Lady in Silver. While he pines for his fantasy woman, he begins to fall for the maid Sophie, leading him to make a proposal that she be his mistress.

Some elements of this will be different in the series, according to showrunner Jess Brownell, who teased during Bridgerton‘s Season of Love event in February 2025, “Benedict is quite different from the book just in that Luke Thompson brings this wonderful sensitivity and self-awareness to the character, and so in Benedict’s story of trying to woo Sophie, I think the character is a bit more delicate and thoughtful perhaps about the way he goes about it.”

As for her favorite episode, Quinn couldn’t say, “If I did, I couldn’t tell you, really….” But when the masquerade ball was brought up, she was quick to add, “I’m really thrilled that actually those were some of the scenes that they’ve released and put out in teaser trailers and the like, because the masquerade ball is so magical and the costumes are amazing.”
