Married at First Sight‘s fateful Decision Day has come and gone — and so has the Season 19 reunion. The episode was filmed a year and a half after the Texas-based singles met for the first time, said “I do,” went on their honeymoons, and started living together. Though there were a fair number of highs as they got to know each other, there were a handful of lows for each couple.
Josh Black and Jalyn Garcia were no exception. While they began their journey with far less drama than some of their fellow participants, several issues around their lifestyle differences arose around their one-month anniversary. Regardless, Josh and Jalyn decided to remain married at the end of filming. But what’s their current relationship status today? Swooon has all the latest post-reunion updates.
Are Married at First Sight’s Jalyn and Josh still together?
Josh and Jalyn ultimately stayed together for about a year, but they called it quits three months before the reunion. They did wind up going to the Burning Man music festival together, which Jalyn was originally hesitant about. Ultimately, they weren’t able to make their relationship last. “It was very out of nowhere,” Jalyn recalled. “I was in shock. We were on vacation, and he looked at me and he said, ‘I don’t feel connected to you anymore and I want to break up.'”
Adding that Josh had never expressed he was unhappy before then, Jalyn told her husband that they should try to work it out at home. She also recalled that a woman approached them at a concert, and Josh wouldn’t reveal how he knew her. Jalyn asked if she and Josh had hooked up. Later that night, when they got home, Josh told Jalyn to pack her things. “He said that I’m a level two on the adventure scale, and he’s a 10. I understand if I was level two when you met me, yes, but I have gone to five raves. I’ve gone to Burning Man for 10 days. Every festival I said I wouldn’t do, I did.”
Josh responded, “The reality is, I lost myself in doing so, and once I realized that I knew I had to do something about it.” He wanted his partner to equally share his passion for his interests.
The couple gave a few more insights into their breakup and the aftermath. Jalyn claimed Josh lied about little things, including his assistant’s age. Josh also shared that he’s gone on a couple of dates since their split, and Jalyn said her friend sent her a video of Josh being affectionate with another woman. Josh also told that friend to not tell Jalyn. Jalyn pointed out that they got a dog together, and it now lives with her.
What happened between Jalyn and Josh on the show?
Josh, 31, owns his own roofing company, building it from the ground up after a difficult childhood. Jalyn, 27, is a realtor, cycle instructor, and “hopeless romantic.” After meeting in Episode 1, they hit it off before heading on their honeymoon, consummating their marriage on the night of Belynda (Jalyn’s mother) and Chad’s wedding.
Aside from some minor concerns about their lifestyle differences — Jalyn isn’t as adventurous as her husband — no major disagreements or roadblocks emerged for the couple in the first several episodes. They already exchanged “I love yous,” Josh gave his wife a ring upgrade on their honeymoon, and he went back on his decision to have Jalyn sign a postnup. They even went on a skydiving date once they got back home.
Things took a tense turn in Episode 8 when Jalyn discovered that Josh lied about unfollowing his ex on social media. The experts arrived to help them through the issue, and something else came up in the process. Josh regularly attends Burning Man and has found a community there. Jalyn, however, said she wouldn’t ever want to go, but they agreed to find a compromise.
The next couple of episodes saw Josh and Jalyn blend their friend groups. When someone asked what activities they liked to do together, it made Jalyn wonder if maybe she and Josh were too different to be compatible for the long haul. In Episode 12, the couple discussed Burning Man again. Josh said he wouldn’t go without his wife, which made Jalyn happy, but she was also worried he was telling her what she wanted to hear.
