Ted Danson is back in Season 2 of A Man on the Inside, and this time, he’s joined by Mary Steenburgen, the woman whom he married in 1995.
“Every day was joyful,” Steenburgen told TV Insider. “We were in love with the material that we had, with the relationship, with the challenges of it. The writing is so spectacular. That writing room is just the most talented, funny people. And it was a privilege every day.”

Are Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen still together?
Yes, Danson and Steenburgen are still together. Just weeks before A Man on the Inside Season 2 dropped, they celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary.
“Happy 30th Anniversary @teddanson!” Steenburgen wrote on Instagram to commemorate the occasion. “This is the bracelet you gave me, brilliantly crafted from the seashells and sea glass from the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard. It speaks to the loves of my life and it was made by @katetaylorofficial, singer, songwriter, and artist extraordinaire.”
Of reuniting professionally for A Man on the Inside, she also told TV Insider, “This was our best working experience of our lives.”
In a 2024 interview with People, Danson opened up about his life with Steenburgen. “The most fun is the early mornings, 4:30 in the morning, coffee in bed, playing Wordle, Connections, and Spelling Bee, talking and laughing and sharing,” he dished, adding that they still partake in their morning routine over the phone when they’re in different places.
The Cheers star also joked that “date nights” are actually “date early bird specials” at his age. (Danson is 77, and Steenburgen is 72.)
The couple did have to face divorce rumors, but only because they played versions of themselves on Curb Your Enthusiasm who split up. “Thanks to Larry, we were happily married,” Danson told USA Today. “That actually pissed me off when I came to work and found I had divorced Mary. We had people who knew us, who had dinner with us a month before, call and ask, ‘Oh my God, is it true?’ And Mary said, ‘Yes, it’s true, and we decided to announce it on Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
How did Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen meet?
Danson and Steenburgen met in 1983 when he auditioned to play her husband in Cross Creek. Nothing happened between them, as they were both married to other people at the time, and Danson did not get the part.
In 1993, the actors reconnected on the set of Pontiac Moon. However, they were both not looking for a relationship. He was fresh off his split from Whoopi Goldberg and in the midst of finalizing his divorce from Casey Coates, while she was recently divorced from Malcolm McDowell.
“I wasn’t ready for anything like a relationship,” Steenburgen previously shared. “We just kept working together and becoming better and better friends.” After the two became “better and better friends,” Danson invited Steenburgen on a canoe trip, which is when the nature of their relationship shifted.
Danson proposed in February 1995, and they tied the knot eight months later.

While Danson and Steenburgen don’t have any biological children together, they have blended their families since marrying one another. Both stars have children from previous relationships.
