If you devoured The Defender like us, you must be ready for Ana Huang‘s next novel, King of Gluttony. While the second-to-last book in the Kings of Sin series doesn’t hit shelves until April 28, 2026, Swooon has exactly what you need to get you through.
Ahead of the release of The Defender, Huang sat down with Swooon to discuss the sports romance and share exciting new details about her upcoming book, King of Gluttony, which is set to feature Valhalla Club billionaire Sebastian Laurent and his boarding school rival Maya Singh.
In the official King of Gluttony synopsis, Huang writes, “Handsome, talented, and beloved by (almost) everyone, Sebastian Laurent is used to being on top… There’s only one person who’s come close to knowing the real him ― Maya Singh, his childhood rival and secret obsession.” Turning to Maya, Huang continues, “Smart, witty, and competitive to a fault, top marketing executive Maya Singh is used to winning ― unless her opponent is Sebastian.”
Since we’ve met both Sebastian and Maya in previous Anaverse books, we asked Huang to reveal something about her King of Gluttony leads that readers wouldn’t expect. She told Swooon, “I mean, they’re boarding school rivals to lovers, right? Obviously, they have a lot of that tension at the beginning of their relationship. But I think one thing that readers won’t expect is, even when they’re rivals, how much they actually rely on the other person to kind of push them to be the best that they are.”
She explained, “One thing that they love about the other is how much they challenge them. And they both have this personality where they’re like, I want to be the best, but also, I don’t find it interesting that I’m the smartest person in the room. And they never want to be that person, and they always want to find people who constantly help them strive to be better.”
While Maya and Sebastian have been peripheral characters in her other leads’ love stories, Huang is excited to explore their dynamic on a deeper level. “Even though they do have that rivalry, at the same time, they also really depend on the other person. I don’t think that’s something that’s come through in previous books yet because we’ve only seen glimpses of them,” she revealed. “That dynamic will definitely pop up a bit in Gluttony.”
King of Gluttony by Ana Huang is available April 28, 2026.
