It’s been three years since Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes‘ relationship scandal rocked the world of TV, and they are stronger than ever.

The couple opened up about their lasting relationship in an interview with People published on Sunday, December 21. As for what they consider to be the secret to their romance’s success? It’s very simple.

“Friendship, the foundation of friendship, period, point blank,” Holmes stated. Robach agreed, adding, “Without a doubt.”

Holmes went on to note, “If you got a friend you love and you respect … you end up in a relationship that’s still the foundation of friendship.” Robach elaborated. “Yes, if you can laugh with someone, you can live a long time with someone. You can get through almost anything if you can laugh together.”

The couple stepped out for a rare public outing with their blended family. The pair were joined on the red carpet at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2025 with Holmes’ youngest daughter, Sabine, 12, and Robach’s daughters, Ava, 22, and Annalise, 19. (Sabine is Holmes’ only child with his second wife, Marilee Fiebig. He also shares kids Brianna and Jaiden with his first wife, Amy Ferson. Robach, meanwhile, shares her daughters with her first husband, Tim McIntosh.)

At the event, Holmes revealed that he and Robach will be spending the holidays “in New York with our girls” before “getting out of town for a little tropical getaway.” He added, “We get to do our perfect Christmas this year.” Robach went on to joke, “It’s T.J. and his ladies.”

Robach celebrated her and Holmes’ recent holiday outings in a Friday, December 19, Instagram post. “We made it to 3 @iheartradio Jingle Balls this year and had a blast at each and every one!!! Happy Holidays everyone 🎄🎅,” she wrote alongside some of her and Holmes’ Jingle Ball red carpet pics.

Back in December 2022, Robach and Holmes made headlines after they were suspended from GMA3 after news of their relationship broke. Following an investigation, the cohosts were dismissed from their roles on the series and ABC News. (Robach and Holmes have denied having an affair during their respective marriages to Andrew Shue and Fiebig.)

During an October episode of their podcast, the couple announced that they got engaged the month prior. “We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to. We’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship,” Holmes told fans.

Though the pair didn’t hide their relationship from loved ones, Holmes joked that it took some of their family and friends a while to realize their new relationship status. “We were intimately engaged with friends, very close people, for the past three weekends,” Holmes stated. “All of them are gonna think back and go, ‘Oh my God, how did we miss it?'”
