We’ll gladly follow Bree (Cat Missal) and Wrigley (Spencer House) into the deep end. The January 27 episode of Tell Me Lies marked a turning point between the characters — and it all went down in a swimming pool.

Bree decided she wanted to try to reconnect with her mom, Mary (Emily Meade), after years of no contact. Wrigley ended up joining her after needing to get away from Baird for the day. Stephen (Jackson White), gloating over his Yale Law acceptance, wanted to take the celebrations back to his dorm room, the very same room Drew (Benjamin Wadsworth) died in.

Naturally, Wrigley didn’t want to set foot in that room, and it never crossed Stephen’s mind why Wrigley was refusing to join him and Evan (Branden Cook) until Wrigley snapped at him. “It wasn’t supposed to be a snap,” House told Swooon. “But I blew up on the day, and they were like, ‘Hey, tone it down a little bit.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t think so.’ So I kept going. I kept snapping.”

While House was worried at first about how the scene would play out, Wrigley’s reaction was well warranted. “It’s great that Wrigley’s got that bit of a blowup,” Missal said.

Wrigley and Bree set out on the open road, and Bree reveals the true intentions of her trip. Wrigley supports Bree’s desire to get in touch with her mom and gives her the space to navigate the complicated situation. On their way home, Bree and Wrigley discuss her past. Because of her chaotic childhood, she never even learned how to swim. “It was just something that was skipped over,” she said. Wrigley didn’t believe her at first. He thought he remembered her swimming at Evan’s lake house, but she pointed out that she had never gone into the deep end.

Wrigley refused to let Bree go another day without learning how to swim. They went to the pool for an impromptu swim lesson. When Wrigley was holding onto Bree in the deep end, she got spooked and wound up just inches away from Wrigley’s face. They nearly kissed, but he pulled back and quickly swam off.

Missal and House thoroughly enjoyed the night shoot swim lesson. “It was very fun,” House said. While Bree can’t swim in the deep end, House brought up that his costar is a “fantastic swimmer.” Missal joked about being a “cat… fish.”

House remembered that they “raced, but not really because my pants came off. My pants came off in the water because Wrigley wears really baggy jeans.” Missal brought up how “jeans are so heavy” in the water.

Swooon noted that this swim lesson is a major shift for Wrigley and Bree’s relationship. “That was really fun to play,” House said. Missal added, “It’s definitely an unrequited love situation.” Or so Bree thinks. When we said it’s becoming clear Wrigley and Bree have more than just platonic feelings, Missal agreed that the characters are “confused” about what’s simmering between them.
