Who is Piper Gilles married to?
Gilles is married to Nathan Kelly. They got engaged on June 21, 2022, and married for the first time on September 3 of the same year in Nova Scotia, where Kelly is originally from. The couple then had a second wedding on October 5, 2024.
How did Piper Gilles and Nathan Kelly meet?
Gilles and Kelly had an adorable meet-cute. They first crossed paths at a Porsche dealership in 2018 when she brought her car in for servicing, according to Hello! Canada. One of the Porsche employees brought up how Kelly used to race and suggested he take Gilles out sometime.

When they were about to go out for their first date, Gilles’ mom died due to complications from glioblastoma. “He stood by me every step of the way,” Gilles told Hello! Canada. “For me, it was almost meant to be — like I was gaining love even as I was losing it.”

Gilles and Poirier have been skating together since 2011. They made their Winter Olympics debut in 2018 and placed eighth. They returned for the 2022 Winter Olympics and came in seventh. They’ll be representing Canada once again in Milan for their third Olympics together.
When was Piper Gilles diagnosed with cancer?
In May 2023, Gilles revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with cancer months earlier. “Back in December, January, I was actually diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer. So when I went in for surgery, I actually did have to get my appendix out as a precaution because we weren’t sure what type of tumour was inside of me on my left ovary,” Gilles said.
She explained why she originally told the world she had appendicitis. “Our team basically wanted to protect myself and protect Paul so that when we did return to the ice, we didn’t have to have that extra pressure of talking about my situation because it was really difficult – and I feel even now I’m still digesting everything,” Gilles noted.
Following her diagnosis, Gilles and Poirier competed at the World Championships in 2023 and earned a bronze medal.
In December 2025, Gilles shared, “Three years ago today, I underwent surgery—only to learn a few weeks later that it was stage 1 ovarian cancer. Because it was caught early, I’m here—healthy, skating, and filled with gratitude.”
