Kelly Ripa surprised Simu Liu with how much she and Mark Consuelos spent on their 1996 wedding.
On the Monday, February 2, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, the couple chatted with Liu about his upcoming wedding to Allison Hsu. “It’s going well,” he said of the wedding planning process. “We’re in my favorite part of the wedding planning process right now where I find out how much everything costs.”
When asked by Ripa if the costs are more than he anticipated, Liu replied, “It’s always more. I feel like that’s the nature of getting married, right? It’s like whatever budget you have, whatever money you think it is, it’s more than that.”
In response, Ripa revealed how much it cost for her and Consuelos to elope in Las Vegas in 1996. “We eloped. We spent $173 on our wedding, including airfare,” she shared. A surprised Liu stated, “Oh, my gosh! Including airfare?”
Ripa went on to joke that she and Consuelos “should be wedding planners,” and accepted Liu’s offer to plan his and Hsu’s nuptials. “Yeah, if you want to get married on the cheap!” she quipped.

Ripa and Consuelos met on the set of the soap opera All My Children in 1995. The couple briefly split before traveling to Sin City to say “I do” in 1996. The pair went on to welcome three kids — Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22.
During a November 2025 episode of Live, the duo opened up about the early days of their marriage while discussing a report claiming that married couples who dated for three or more years are less likely to separate.
“‘Dating longer can give you more data on a partner.’ I got my data pretty quickly,” Consuelos stated. Ripa added, “We didn’t have that much data. We were so young when we got married.”
Ripa credited her and Consuelos’ strong connection to their roles as love interests on All My Children. “I feel that you get a pretty good glimmer into a person when you are one-on-one with them for any prolonged period of time,” she explained.
Ripa went on to share that she and Consuelos were still living in separate apartments when they tied the knot. “We still had separate apartments because we didn’t plan the wedding, obviously, and then, we had two leases, and they didn’t expire anytime soon,” she said on the show. “So, during the work week, we would stay at my apartment. And then, we would go to Mark’s ‘country estate’ on the Lower East Side for the weekends. We were like, ‘Let’s head down to the country,’ and then we would go to the Lower East Side.”
