Sean (Asher Angel) and Flora’s (Paris Berelc) relationship in Tubi’s new rom-com Kissing Is the Easy Part is anything but easy. When Flora discovers Sean’s deal with her scientist parents — he dates Flora and encourages her to study in exchange for a college recommendation letter and some cash — it seems like there’s no coming back from his betrayal.
Sean chases after Flora at the airport to keep her from leaving town, but even that grand gesture isn’t enough to get them back together. They graduate from high school and go their separate ways. Flora takes a gap year to travel and write, while Sean experiences his freshman year at MIT before they meet again. In a joint interview with her costar, Berelc explained that it was important Sean and Flora didn’t get back together too fast.
“I think a little separation was needed, you know what I mean?” she told Swooon. “They got to figure their stuff out individually and heal and grow.”

“Good self-discovery time, good self-reflection,” Angel chimed in. Berelc added, “I think it worked out for the best.”
In the movie’s one year flash-forward at the end, Sean and Flora reunite at their special spot on the beach. After a bit of catching up, they kiss. “I think she invites him to the beach because she has forgiven him,” Berelc explained. “And then also seeing him and hearing how MIT has been and him accepting the fact that change is inevitable, as we say in the movie, that makes her realize like, ‘Oh wow, he’s changed and he’s grown and I love him.'”
Angel confirmed that Sean’s dreams have changed after going to MIT. “I think, we go through that — at least I go through that in my own life, where I think self-discovery and self-reflection never stops,” the actor continued. “Paris says this very well, and I think he starts to realize that very fast and he’s like, ‘Oh, crap. I just lost the love of my life.’ And he’s going to do anything to get her back.”
By the end, there’s “lots of hope” for Sean and Flora, Angel said. “Obviously, him coming home is he wants to be with Flora Morgan,” Angel concluded. “There’s there’s no other person in in the picture. She is his dream for sure.”
