Hannah Swensen’s (Alison Sweeney) crime-solving adventures continue with Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, premiering March 6 on Hallmark Channel. The bakery owner/sleuth and Chad Norton (Victor Webster) are navigating work and romance when Hannah finds a body at the grand reopening of the Lake Eden Inn.
Hannah and Chad’s relationship is fairly new in the Hannah Swensen Universe, but it seems like these two could go the distance. Hallmark’s Hannah Swensen movies are based on the Joanne Fluke novels. Who does Hannah Swensen end up with in the books?
The Hannah Swensen book series is still ongoing, and as of now, Hannah is single. Her love life has been a core aspect of the novels, especially her love triangle with Mike Kingston and Norman Rhodes. Both of them propose to Hannah at one point, but she turns them down.

However, Hannah ends up marrying someone else in the books: Ross Barton. Their marriage is anything but blissful. They say “I do” in Banana Cream Pie Murder. It’s later revealed that Ross and Hannah’s marriage isn’t even legal, and he’s actually married to someone else. In yet another twist, Ross is later found dead. As of Pie to Die For, Ross has not been introduced in the Hallmark movies.
Are Hannah Swensen and Chad Norton together?
Chad Norton, a prosecuting attorney, was introduced in One Bad Apple as a new love interest for Hannah. He had some brief competition for Hannah’s affections with Professor Bradford Ramsay (Oliver Rice). Chad is a character from the novels, but the character has been expanded in the movies.

Their romantic relationship took some time to develop, due to Hannah’s breakup with Mike. Hannah and Chad went on their first date in Pie to Die For, and Webster appreciated how the couple took their time to figure out what they meant to each other.
“It was a really nice slow burn,” Webster previously told Swooon. “We’ve had three movies where we’ve kind of sensed a growing interest, and now this is the first film where we take it out of the business world, and we see what happens when they go on a date.”

Why did Hannah Swensen and Mike Kingston break up?
Prior to Chad’s arrival, Hannah was in a serious relationship with Mike. They were even engaged at one point! After the love triangle with Norman (Gabriel Hogan) settled down, it seemed like Hannah and Mike were going to be endgame, but Mike left for FBI training at Quantico in A Zest for Death. (Mathison signed a multi-picture movie deal with Great American Family in 2023.)
Sweeney has always been open to the idea of Mike returning in the future. “Believe me, I am always open to working with people I love like Cameron,” she said. Given Hannah and Chad’s relationship, Mike’s return would certainly shake things up if it ever happened.
