Valerie Bertinelli received a special surprise when she stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show on March 10. The actress, who released her memoir Getting Naked this week, had no idea that her only son, Wolfgang Van Halen, recorded a video for her that host Drew Barrymore shared on the air.
Wolfgang made the short clip to send his mother love following the book release and the launch of her new digital platform, Valerie’s Place, where she shares fan-favorite content and new, original programming.
“Just wanted to say congratulations on the book launch on Valerie’s Place, on the website,” Wolfgang said in the clip. “You’re doing so much you’re so busy, and I’m so proud of you, and I love you so very much. You’re probably crying right now. So I’m sorry for making you cry.”

He added, “I hope it’s happy tears, it probably is, but yeah, that’s all. I love you. I’m very proud to be your son.”
Wolfgang, who is now 34 years old and normally avoids the public eye, clearly knows his mother well, as she did get emotional over his special message. “I can’t believe he did that,” Valerie admitted. “He’s so private. Oh my God. He just lights up my life. I just adore him. I’m so proud to be his mother.”
She also acknowledged that she’s happy Wolfgang found his “person,” referencing his 2023 marriage to Andraia Allsop.
Wolfgang’s father is the late Eddie Van Halen, who died in 2020. He and Valerie got married in 1981 and welcomed Wolfgang 10 years later. They separated 10 years after that and finalized their divorce in 2007, although they remained amicable following their split.
In her memoir, Valerie revealed that she and her late ex-husband reached a “place of deep love and forgiveness” before his death. “My final words to him when he was taking his last breaths in the hospital were ‘I love you,'” she shared.
