‘Outlander’: Who Are Fergus’ Biological Parents? Breaking Down That Season 8 Reveal
What To Know
- In Season 8 of Outlander, Fergus learns from Percy Beauchamp that his biological parents
- Fergus grew up an orphan in a Parisian brothel, later adopted by Jamie and Claire Fraser.
- Fergus’ biological father is a notable villain from earlier seasons.
For all intents and purposes, Outlander‘s Fergus (César Domboy) is part of the Fraser clan, ever since Jamie (Sam Heughan) took the orphaned boy (then played by Romann Berrux) under his wing in Season 2. Fergus, then known as Claudel, stole the Frasers’ hearts (and ours) as soon as we met him, pickpocketing the unsuspecting patrons of the Parisian brothel where he lived. Years later, Fergus’ biological parentage has remained one of Outlander‘s many mysteries — until the final season.
Well, it’s been solved if Percy Beauchamp (Michael Lindall) is to be believed. In Episode 8 of Season 4, “Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut,” the French spy reveals who Fergus’ father and mother were, and one of them was once a prominent figure in the Outlander universe. It’s been a while since he appeared — six whole seasons, to be exact — so we’re breaking down everything Outlander has revealed so far about Fergus’ parents.
Who are Fergus’ parents in Outlander?
In all the ways that matter to Fergus, his parents are Jamie and Claire, as he makes clear to Marsali (Lauren Lyle) in “Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut.” But Fergus receives the bombshell — courtesy of Percy — earlier in the episode that his biological parentage is far more complicated than he ever imagined. As he assumed, Fergus finds out his mother was a sex worker in the brothel he grew up in. It turns out it was Amelie Beauchamp, whom he knew during his time there. The man who fathered him, however, wasn’t just a random client. Amelie was secretly married to Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber) when Fergus was born.
Who is Comte St. Germain in Outlander?
Unlike Fergus himself, his late father was no gem, as some fans will remember. The Comte is introduced all the way back in Season 2 as a formidable villain. When Claire exposes that his ship is carrying smallpox-infected goods, she saves the ship’s passengers, but makes an enemy out of the wealthy businessman who owns it. When he loses his livelihood, the Comte tries to get revenge by poisoning Claire. She’s pregnant when it happens, making matters even more dire.

Starz
In the end, the Comte reaps what he sows. The French king enlists Claire’s help to determine the punishment of two men accused of witchcraft — her ally Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) and the Comte. Claire pretends to have mystical abilities, allowing her to create a potion that reveals a heart’s purity. After deciding to spare the Comte, Claire whips up a concoction that’ll make them ill but give them some time to escape. Master Raymond, who’s had a longstanding feud with the Comte, takes matters into his own hands and slips deadly poison into the Comte’s drink.
Fans haven’t seen or heard of the Comte since he collapsed during his trial — until now, thanks to Percy. The Comte’s estate owns a chunk of the Old Northwest in the Americas. As the Comte’s supposed heir, Fergus can inherit that property. If he claims it, he can also sell it, which Percy wants him to do. Percy and his colleagues want to establish a French colony on the Comte’s land, but the solicitor won’t budge. Fergus isn’t sure that involving himself in the whole thing is a good idea, even if he could get rich from the sale.
Who is Amelie Beauchamp?
Amelie is a more mysterious figure than the Comte, since she never appears on screen. We only have what Percy says to go off of, as well as Fergus’ memories of Amelie. Percy explains that his wife’s sister fell for the Comte and left her family behind. She wasn’t merely the Comte’s mistress, but his wife. She had the Comte sign a marriage license before they slept together, making her his secret wife. (And Fergus a legitimate heir rather than a bastard.)
When Amelie got pregnant, he sold her to a Paris brothel, where she aptly earned the nickname “Baroness” for her haughty attitude. Fergus remembers Amelie from his childhood in said brothel. She detested all of the children, but Fergus especially, who was ultimately raised by the other sex workers. Before she died, Amelie asked Fergus to be a good boy.
