“Hannah toured with me for eight or nine years, so she understands it all, but [that] doesn’t make it any easier,” he told The Things We Love in 2024. “She’s been living the single mom life, especially for the last couple of years. So, I can’t thank her enough for everything she does, so I can [pursue] my dream. And I’m just really happy for her for chasing her dream, too, and figuring all that out. Who is Phillip Phillips’ wife?
Blackwell is a fellow Georgia native, and she’s settled in her home state — the South Georgia country specifically, per a 2023 interview with Goldmine Magazine — with her husband to be near family. In addition to serving as Phillips’ muse, she’s established her own career as a therapist in a hospital. “Writing music for me is therapeutic, and Hannah is a therapist, too,” Phillips explained. “I do what she tells me to do, and it all works out at some point.”
“What I love most about her is she’s my best friend, and I can tell her anything,” Phillips told People. “I just love her. Even when we get into an argument or a little fight or something, we always can resolve it pretty quickly.”
How did Phillip Phillips and Hannah Blackwell meet?
In 2008, an 18-year-old Phillips met Blackwell, who is two years his junior, while volunteering at his sister’s charity organization, Mission Change. While she was going to school for nursing, Blackwell went on to star in Phillips’ music video for “Home” and joined her love on tour, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I feel like when I met Phillip, he was the answer to so many questions that I had,” Blackwell told People when she married Phillips in 2015. “He just makes everything make sense for me, and he’s a calming presence. I just feel so safe and comfortable with him.”
Phillips has written a number of tracks inspired by his relationship with Blackwell, including 2023’s “Love Like That.” He told Goldmine, “It is a special song about my family and Hannah and our relationship from when we first started together to where we are now. My brother-in-law put the video together. I sent him a lot of footage and wanted to build it from before we were married, to getting married, having a baby, and where we are now.”

In November 2019, the singer took to Instagram to share the news that their son was born. “I cried more than he did,” Phillips wrote. “Hannah was an absolute rockstar in delivery and she has been such an amazing mom these last four days. I’m forever in love with this little kid. He’s changed me so much already. We can’t take our eyes off of him. He’s perfect. Our prayers were answered and this new journey has begun.”
Phillips has shared family updates on social media regularly since then. He’s also shared some insights in the press. “We named our son Patch after the film Patch Adams,” he told Goldmine. “We loved Robin Williams and that film, and it fits him quite well. He is an absolute nut!”

Phillips has had even more song inspiration come into his life in the years since. In June 2025, the singer shared on social media that his daughter, Isla Grace, had arrived.
“You decided to come a little early but we couldn’t have been more excited to meet you,” he wrote. “Especially your big brother. VERY protective. @hgblackwell is our rock and she’s the best momma. This song couldn’t fit more with our life right now. Writing this year and knowing I have a son and a little girl on the way made things feel different. LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!”
