During the reunion, all six couples — well, former couples in some cases — came to the stage with receipts, ready to spill some surprising updates from after filming. Following the season’s premiere, controversy surrounding one of the season’s couples, including one cast member’s post-season arrest, gained widespread attention online. Now, the entire cast has broken their silence and revealed where they stand today.
This season, viewers got to know Blake Robertson and Hayley Hendrich, Killian Grondin and Ashley Wilson, David Atkinson and Casey Douglass, Luke Wesselhoff and Monica Payne, Edris Khalieque and Jessica Grace Booker, and Alex Johnsen and Jebin John. While the full cast entered as couples, they quickly split to enter trial marriages with different partners to explore what a marriage would really look like.
Out of the six original couples who entered the experiment, only four made it into the trial marriages. While speed dating with other couples was enough of a test to make them realize that getting engaged was their next step, another became the first couple to get kicked out of the experiment. As it turns out, all four of the trial marriage couples got engaged, but not everyone made it to the reunion with their relationship intact.

Trial Marriage Partners: Killian and Hayley, Ashley and Blake
Today, Killian and Ashley have called it quits. At the reunion, Ashley revealed that she broke up with Killian two months after their engagement, once she realized they were falling back into old patterns. She told Swooon, “It finally just hit me, and I decided to walk away. It was very hard for me because that’s my person for five years, and I thought that’s who I was going to end up with. It was the hardest decision I had to make, but probably the best decision.”
During her appearance on The Viall Files, Ashley revealed that she and Killian got into an explosive argument, leading to him breaking her phone and her hiding in a closet. She also claimed that Blake blackmailed her after the reunion.
Looking back, Killian and Ashley’s trial marriages sparked major jealousy and discomfort on both sides, leaving bad blood between the couple and Hayley and Blake. Their first road bump came when all four cast members got together to address their constant contact, which ended up with them blocking their original partners. This was short-lived.
By the end of Episode 4, Hayley spotted Killian and Ashley secretly meeting up. Hayley further called out Killian’s “disrespect,” claiming that his friends sent messages in a group chat about how she wouldn’t “put out” and how they were going to “f**k [Hayley] and change the show’s plot.” Hayley later claimed that Killian told her, “If you were anyone else, and you weren’t modest, I would have f**ked whoever it was with how Ashley is acting.”
When Hayley and Blake tried to warn Ashley about Killian and his friends’ behavior, she told them that they were gaslighting her, leading to Ashley leaving her trial marriage with Blake early.
Luke Wesselhoff & Monica Payne
Relationship Status: Engaged
Trial Marriage Partners: Luke and Casey, Monica and David
Luke and Monica are still going strong! They are currently engaged and planning a wedding close to home. Luke revealed that he has some backup plans in case he doesn’t get hired as a firefighter, which was a serious concern for Monica.
Monica and Luke both saw a lot of growth with their trial marriage partners and left with solid connections. Monica was specifically surprised by her connection with David, who was very different from Luke.
During their second trial marriage, Monica admitted to Luke that he put her on too high a pedestal. She explained, “I felt like so many times, I reached out like, ‘I need you. I’m not okay. I’m feeling weak.’ And it felt like, ‘No, it’s Monica, she’ll be okay.'” Apologizing, Luke told her, “I put you on the pedestal because that’s how I see you. But I need you to know, you don’t need to be perfect to be sitting on that pedestal.”

Relationship Status: Split
Trial Marriage Partners: Blake and Ashley, Hayley and Killian
Blake and Hayley have split after a very tumultuous relationship. Following the season, a report came out that Blake had been arrested, which he confirmed at the reunion. On What’s The Reality? podcast, Hayley revealed that she was still living with Blake while finding a place to live after they split. Addressing the arrest, she alleged that Blake came back “wasted” from an event, which led to a major argument. During the argument, Blake allegedly grabbed Hayley by the back of her sweatshirt, trying to drag her out of the house. Overhearing their fight from next door, Blake’s dad called the police on Hayley. After listening to a recording of their argument, Blake was arrested. Ahead of the reunion, Hayley signed an affidavit on Blake’s behalf, getting his charges dropped.
Ahead of Hayley’s The Viall Files appearance, Blake posted several screenshots of their texts from the night of his arrest.
Looking back, both Blake and Hayley’s trial marriages gave them a bit of perspective on their own relationships. During the two couples’ all-out argument at The Changeover, Blake consistently defended Hayley.
At the start of Episode 8, they had a major argument, with Hayley yelling at Blake about how she always has to ask for everything in their relationship. He fired back, “I am not this cold-hearted bastard that doesn’t give a s**t about anyone’s feelings, and who doesn’t know how to love anyone. I am a good person.”

Relationship Status: Married
Trial Marriage Partners: David and Monica, Casey and Luke
After five years together, David has given Casey three promise rings, one engagement ring, and yes, a wedding ring! On the reunion stage, these two legally tied the knot — with Nick Lachey as the officiant! — before setting off to get married in Italy this September.
During their trial marriages, David and Casey learned a lot about themselves. For David, this meant learning how to ask for help and be vulnerable with his partner.
Once they got back together, the duo was more open about what they need in their relationship. Casey confessed, “I think we both lost sight of what matters.”
Edris and Jessica Grace did not make it to the trial marriages either. However, their departure was for a far happier reason… At least, at the time.
At The Choice, Edris got down on one knee, asking Jessica Grace to marry him and leave the experiment right then and there, after hearing how Jessica Grace and Luke felt about each other. He simply asked her, “Will you marry me?” Then, she responded, “Of course I will!”
On stage at the reunion, the two revealed that they split after Edris hit on their costar Alex during their engagement. Edris revealed that he was “so f**king angry” after Alex and Jebin left the experiment, since he wanted to have a trial marriage with Alex. He told the cast that he felt like he had to propose. He claimed, “It felt so f***ing forced.” Jessica Grace revealed that they continued to have an intimate relationship after their split, telling Edris, “Don’t sit here and piss on me and tell me it’s not raining.”
Following the reunion, these two got back together. They also went on The Viall Files, where they clarified Jessica Grace’s “humiliation rituals” comment and revealed that reconnecting after months of no-contact made them want to work on their relationship.
Jebin John & Alex Johnsen
Relationship Status: Split
Jebin and Alex have split after becoming the first couple in Ultimatum history to get kicked out of the experiment. During the experiment, Jebin passed Alex a note in an attempt to correspond off-camera about her blossoming crush on Killian. In the note, which Alex later read on-camera in front of the entire cast, he told her, “Up until this point, this experience has made me feel less confident in you, as clearly you have something else on your mind… I don’t want you to make me look dumber than you already have.” He continued, “You ruined it. You ruined everything. You f***ed us over. I honestly hope to God you guys weren’t touching on camera. I’m not f***ing doing this… There is no way we are getting married.”
While Jebin clearly had to go, Alex got the boot as well due to the “awkward” number of people left in the experiment. Luckily, Alex gained several friends through the experiment to help her through the breakup after six years with Jebin. Find out more about the note scandal here!
