Buckle up, because another wild season of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On has arrived. Once again, six couples arrive at a relationship crossroads, with one partner ready for marriage and the other needing a little more convincing. So they’ve joined Season 4 of Netflix’s hit reality series, where they’ll swap partners for a trial marriage, return to their original partners for another trial marriage, and ultimately decide whether they’re ready to put a ring on it or walk away.  (Warning: Spoilers for The Ultimatum Season 4 Episodes 1-3, below.)

Alex Johnsen enters the experiment after giving her partner, Jebin John, an ultimatum because she’s tired of waiting for the next step. But is he taking the decision seriously? More importantly, is he taking their relationship seriously?

Alex and Jebin are one of Season 4’s most intriguing couples, and their journey has already sparked plenty of drama amongst the group. Here’s everything you need to know about Alex Johnsen from the first three episodes of The Ultimatum Season 4.

Who is Alex Johnsen?

Alexandria “Alex” Johnsen may be a full foot shorter than her boyfriend and only 23 years old, but she’s more than ready to hold her own. She’s a hairstylist, and one of the biggest issues in her relationship is that she feels her career isn’t respected. Alex says she often feels like her partner looks down on her job and has made her feel like she needs to change.

Outside of The Ultimatum, Alex is a proud Yorkie/Maltese dog mom and places a strong emphasis on her faith. Based on her Instagram, she also loves traveling, trying good food, and getting dressed up for a night out. All things we can absolutely get behind.

Who is Alex’s boyfriend?

Alex enters The Ultimatum with her boyfriend of six years, Jebin John. The pair first met while working at a local grocery store in Chicago, and after a late-night shift, they bonded over an Italian ice and shared their first kiss. Alex was initially drawn to Jebin’s playful personality and unique sense of humor. But as their relationship has evolved, those same traits have started to become a source of tension.

Speaking of tension, Jebin still lives at home and openly jokes about his mom taking care of everything for him. Jebin reveals that his parents don’t support his relationship with Alex because she isn’t of Indian descent. He worries that choosing Alex could mean losing his connection with his family, while Alex describes their disapproval as a major “strain on the relationship.” She’s also hurt that she has never been invited to family events.

While Jebin’s family isn’t exactly cheering them on, Alex’s family has been encouraging her to take the next step and get married, leaving the couple caught between two very different pressures.

Who was Alex’s trial partner?

Despite being several years younger than the other contestants, Alex does well for herself during the dating period. She quickly connects with Killian Grondin, who entered the experiment after receiving an ultimatum from his partner, Ashley Wilson. The connection becomes so strong that Alex eventually admits to Jebin that she is “falling for someone” — and yes, that someone is Killian.

Meanwhile, Jebin struggles to make the same kind of connections with the other women. Several contestants even approach Alex to share their concerns, questioning whether Jebin is taking the process seriously enough or if he’s simply too young for an experiment this intense.

Why was Alex kicked off The Ultimatum Season 4?

But before anyone even reaches the choosing ceremony, everything changes. At the final group mixer, Jebin secretly slips Alex a note, but his unsubtle attempt doesn’t stay private for long. Producers quickly confiscate it, and the next day, Alex is asked to read the message aloud to the entire group. Genuinely, our worst nightmare right there.

The note is essentially Jebin calling out Alex for her connection with Killian and blaming her for the situation that brought him to The Ultimatum. His words come across as disrespectful and combative, and the incident leads Nick and Vanessa Lachey to ask Jebin to leave the experiment, explaining that they no longer feel comfortable pairing him with another participant.

Alex also has to leave, as removing her partner would leave the experiment with an uneven number of participants. Her journey on The Ultimatum ends abruptly, but not before leaving the cast, hosts, and viewers wondering the same thing: Could Alex and Jebin’s relationship survive after such a dramatic fallout?
