During Season 4 of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, the franchise saw a first: A couple was kicked off the show. It all started when Jebin John passed his original partner, Alex Johnsen, a note during the last dating event ahead of The Choice, telling her to read it off camera. Turns out, production was not too happy about the off-camera correspondence.
So, who are Jebin John and Alex Johnsen? Why did the pair get the boot? And are they still together after the scandal? Swooon‘s breaking down all that and more below. (Warning: The Ultimatum Season 4 spoilers ahead!)
Who was kicked off The Ultimatum Season 4?
The season’s youngest couple, Jebin John and Alex Johnsen, were kicked off The Ultimatum Season 4. Ahead of their reality TV debut, Jebin and Alex, who are from Chicago, had been together for six years, making them just 17 when they started dating. While the duo met while working at a grocery store, today he is a hedge fund manager, and she is a hairstylist.
Alex gave Jebin an ultimatum, wanting to make things official. However, Netflix revealed, “Jebin says his parents don’t support his relationship with Alex because she’s not of Indian descent.” The streamer continued, “Alex is tired of waiting in limbo.” While the duo was looking forward to living together for the first time during their trial marriage, they did not make it far enough in the experiment to live out that dream.

Why was Jebin kicked off The Ultimatum Season 4?
At first, only Jebin got kicked off the show. During the cocktail party at the end of Episode 2, Jebin told Alex he had something for her before slipping a note into her purse, telling her, “Save this for after.” According to Alex, the note was confiscated by production before she could read it, and the whole thing was caught on camera. At The Choice, Nick Lachey brought out the note.
“We were made aware of a note that was passed last night,” the host explained. “Alex, I believe you received a note… Communication is paramount to this whole experience; I think you all are aware of that. But that communication, frankly, needs to happen on camera. That’s part of this experience. That’s part of what makes this entire process unique.” Much like kids getting caught passing notes in class, Alex was then asked to read the note in front of everyone. She told him, “This is what you got yourself into.”
Turns out, the note was just the first domino to fall. After Nick and Vanessa Lachey called out Jebin, the rest of the women in the experiment started sharing their own experiences with Jebin during the dating portion of the experiment, claiming that he wasn’t taking it seriously. Jessica Grace Booker explained, “We’re not getting the real Jebin, so how can we help you?”
Luke Wesselhoff, who came into the experiment with Monica Payne, told the cast, “I currently don’t want someone who speaks like that to someone he ‘loves’ to be in a trial marriage with my ex. I don’t feel comfortable with it anymore… That affected way more than just you and her.”
Sending him packing, Vanessa shared, “Jebin, I think I speak for the room about the clarity you’ve given us on you not being ready to be involved in this experiment.”
What did Jebin’s note say?
At the start of Episode 3, Alex read Jebin’s note out loud. It read, “I’m really not sure what you came here to do. You’ve already had two dates with Killian [Grondin]. Then you look me dead in the face and say you’re falling for someone. You say that you should go talk to him. You say his name over and over to me and point at him when he walks by.”
The note continued, “Up until this point, this experience has made me feel less confident in you. Clearly, you have something else in your mind. I am not the focus for you. I don’t want you to make me look dumber than you already have. You ruined it. You ruined everything. You f***ed us over. I want to say things can get better, but this time you did it. I honestly hope to God you guys weren’t touching on camera. I’m not f**king doing this. Who knows what else you’ve done. You’re into him. I don’t even know. There is no way we are getting married.”
Why was Alex kicked off The Ultimatum Season 4?
After Jebin was sent away from the experiment, the rest of the cast showed her a lot of support. “I’m in shock… I mean, I’m sad for him,” Alex said. Unfortunately, Jebin’s removal from the experiment caused Alex to get the boot as well. Vanessa shared, “Because he has left, and there is an awkward number, we, unfortunately, will have to ask you to leave as well.” Nick added, “He’s stolen this from you, and that is super unfortunate.”
After she left, Alex confessed to viewers, “Like, I’ve been with him for six years. Everyone is just telling me, like, ‘You can do better.’ I don’t want to hear that. I’m sorry, I don’t… I wanted to marry him.”

Are Jebin and Alex still together today?
Before leaving, Vanessa told Alex, “I feel like this needs to be a massive wake-up call. You should never be spoken to that way.” So, did Alex leave Jebin? Right now, neither cast member has confirmed their relationship status. That said, Jebin left a flirty message on a carousel of photos Alex posted just four weeks ago. Could this mean they’ve made things work? Check back here for updates!
