‘Ladies of London’: All About Emma Thynn’s High-Profile Marriage to Ceawlin Thynn
Emma Thynn was born into a lavish lifestyle. With a billionaire Nigerian father and English socialite mother, she grew up in affluence, which ultimately put her in the same circles as her now-husband, Ceawlin Thynn, a British aristocrat.
The two tied the knot in June 2013 and have been building a life together at Longleat House in the U.K. Emma is now a cast member on Ladies of London: The New Reign, and while her husband doesn’t appear on the show, she often talks about their relationship and life at Longleat.

How did Emma Thynn meet her husband?
Emma was just three years old when she met her husband for the first time. The two first crossed paths at the wedding of Emma’s half-brother Iain McQuiston to Ceawlin’s aunt Lady Silvy Cerne Thynne.
“In my mind, Emma was always a child, or a teenager, you know,” Ceawlin admitted to ABC News in 2013. However, when they “re-met” years later, Emma was in her 20s and “a new dynamic ensued,” he shared.
Emma added, “I already knew him and the family, but I never dreamed this would happen. I think I wouldn’t even let myself hope before that this would happen because it’s just so surreal. Still, [it] is quite surreal now.”
That later-in-life meeting happened at Soho House in London, Emma told Tatler. “Serendipity,” she insisted. “Never in a million years could we have predicted that.”
How did Emma Thynn become a Marchioness?
When Ceawlin’s father, Alexander, 7th Marquess of Bath, died in 2020, Ceawlin became the 8th Marquess of Bath. When her husband’s title changed, so did Emma’s, and she officially became the Marchioness of Bath.
Prior to Alexander’s death, Ceawlin was Viscount Weymouth, and Emma was Viscountess Weymouth.
Emma was the first Black Marchioness. “It’s been a positive thing just to show that, you know, hopefully race doesn’t need to determine who you are, what you’re like, or where you need to be,” she admitted in the ABC News interview. “Of course it should be irrelevant.”
Unfortunately, the color of Emma’s skin led to a falling out between Ceawlin and his mother, who allegedly questioned how marrying Emma would affect the family’s bloodline. Ceawlin uninvited his mother from the wedding due to her comments.
What is the age difference between Emma Thynn and her husband?
Emma and Ceawlin have about a 12-year age difference. She was born in March 1986, while he was born in June 1974. Ceawlin was a teenager when he first met Emma as a toddler.
Does Emma Thynn have kids?
Yes, Emma and Ceawlin have two children. Their first son, John Alexander, was born in 2014, followed by another son, Henry Richard, in 2016.
Emma became the first member of the British aristocracy to have a child via surrogate. She and Ceawlin opted for surrogacy to welcome their second child after Emma suffered a life-threatening brain bleed during her first pregnancy.
After Emma suffered severe headaches during her pregnancy, doctors eventually realized that her pituitary gland in her brain was swollen, leading to the bleed. She had to deliver John via emergency C-section.
Her official diagnosis was hypophysitis, a rare inflammatory condition affecting the pituitary gland, according to the Barrow Neurological Institute. This made her high-risk for another pregnancy, which is why doctors advised her not to carry another child.
