Will ‘Finding Her Edge’ Season 2 Be Based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s Book Sequel? She Says…
What To Know
- Jennifer Iacopelli confirmed that her Finding Her Edge sequel novel, On Thin Ice, will have no overlap with Season 2 of the adaptation.
- Iacopelli told Swooon that she and the TV writers worked independently, ensuring separate storylines.
- She believes both versions will remain thematically similar.
When we caught up with Finding Her Edge author Jennifer Iacopelli at BookCon 2026, she revealed that her new sequel, On Thin Ice, will not overlap with Season 2 of the Netflix series based on her original novel.
While Season 1 of Finding Her Edge premiered on Netflix in January 2026, Iacopelli published the novel it was adapted from in February 2022. At the time, she had planned the novel as the first of a trilogy following ice dancer Adriana Russo (played by Madelyn Keys in the TV series).
She revealed to Swooon, “When I initially conceived Finding Her Edge, I had always thought of it as a trilogy. I always wanted to do three books, and then through various publishing mechanisms, we realized that that probably wasn’t going to happen.”
With the massive success of the adaptation renewing interest in the novel, Iacopelli finally got the green light for the sequel. However, seeing as Iacopelli is not a writer for the series, and the first season had a completely different ending than the original book, Iacopelli confirmed that nothing from her written sequel will appear in the series. Going forward, the book series and the TV series will be separate entities and not be connected.

“I can give you exclusive on that right now,” Iacopelli told Swooon, when asked if any of the On Thin Ice plot will make it to the screen. “It won’t. Jeff [ Norton] and his team of writers, who are phenomenal, and I wrote with deliberate blinders on. They were sitting down to write the episodes, I was sitting down to write the manuscripts, and we literally were not talking to each other.”
According to Iacopelli, for legal reasons, they could not reveal what direction they were taking Adriana’s story for either medium. “We didn’t want lines to get blurred,” she explained. “I’m good friends with all of them. So we were like, ‘Let’s just make sure we’re on the straight and narrow and doing what we’re supposed to do.'” That said, she shared, “Once everything is locked, we’ll probably get together and have like, a little gossipy tea session about what we put our babies through.”

Of course, Iacopelli speculated that while she does not know anything about Season 2 of the TV series yet, the writers likely chose the same thematic direction as she did. “Even though they had separate endings, I felt like the book and the show really felt thematically similar. They didn’t really play with that; the core and the root of who the characters were in the world were the same. So I feel like that will probably continue, but we’ll see two diverging paths as they go along.”
Ultimately, Iacopelli is just as big a fan of the Netflix series as the rest of us. “I’m just excited that two versions of this story are now going to be able to exist,” she told Swooon. “And if you don’t like something that happens in the show, maybe go read the book. If you don’t like something that happens in the book, maybe go watch the show. Everyone can have their own happily ever after.”
On Thin Ice by Jennifer Iacopelli goes on sale February 2, 2027.
