Macaulay Culkin made a cameo appearance in the first season of Netflix’s Running Point, and, in a roundabout way, he also did in Season 2, which dropped on April 23. His wife, Brenda Song, stars alongside Kate Hudson in the sports comedy series, and the show included an adorable nod to Culkin in Season 2’s third episode. (Spoilers for Running Point Season 2 ahead!)
The episode, titled “Triangle of Badness,” flashes back to 2004 when Isla (Hudson) and Ali (Song) met in college. They started out as roommates and quickly became the best of friends. As the show chronicled their friendship memories, there was a sweet shoutout to one of Culkin’s most beloved roles.
The scene featured Ali and Isla crying in their tiny dorm bed as they watched My Girl, the 1991 coming-of-age movie in which a 10-year-old Culkin played Thomas J. “He can’t see without his glasses,” Ali and Isla said through tears, referring to the heartbreaking scene when Vada (Anna Chlumsky) cries over Thomas J.’s body during his funeral.

For those who’ve seen the movie (a millennial classic), Thomas J. and Vada are childhood best friends. When Thomas J. goes into the woods to search for Vada’s lost mood ring, he’s stung by a swarm of bees. Thomas J. tragically dies because he’s allergic to bees, which devastates Vada.
Culkin made his first appearance on Running Point in Season 1 as a fan at one of the Los Angeles Waves games, who was primarily concerned with Billie Eilish performing. Song revealed during the April 22 edition of Today that her husband is already pitching himself for a role in a possible third season. “He loves the show,” Song gushed.
The Home Alone star and Song have been dating since 2017. The couple welcomed their first child in 2021. The following year, Song and Culkin got engaged and welcomed their second child.
