90 Day Fiancé viewers may remember Geoffrey Paschel from Season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, where he traveled from Tennessee to Russia to meet his long-distance love, Varya Malina. During the season, viewers also got to know 90 Day staples like Big Ed Brown and Rosemarie Vega, Darcey Silva and Tom Brooks, and Lisa Hamme and Usman Umar.
While they left their relationship on pretty vague terms at the end of the season, the couple later revealed that they were engaged, with Varya relocating to Tennessee. Less than two years after the season aired, Geoffrey returned to headlines after being sentenced to 18 years in prison without parole. Now, Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever Season 2 is spotlighting Geoffrey Paschel’s conviction.

Why was 90 Day Fiancé‘s Geoffrey Paschel arrested?
Geoffrey was sentenced to 18 years in prison with no chance of parole in 2022. However, the incident behind his arrest occurred years prior. In 2019, Geoffrey was engaged to Kristen Wilson Chapman. That June, a domestic disturbance was called in on Geoffrey after Kristen alleged that he had assaulted her.
The Knox County D.A. documented, “Paschel grabbed the victim by the neck and slammed her head against the wall several times. She was also thrown to the ground and dragged. Paschel took the victim’s cell phone and did not allow her to leave the residence.” His ex-fiancée was eventually able to flee to a neighbor’s house. After three years, the court case ended with Geoffrey being convicted of kidnapping and assaulting his then-fiancée.
When did Geoffrey Paschel and Varya Malina start dating?
According to Geoffrey, he and Varya met online in July 2019, just a month after the incident with his ex-fiancée. Ahead of Season 4, TLC revealed, “The last few years have been rough for Geoffrey. Shortly after his second marriage ended in divorce, he suffered the tragic loss of his son. But life started to look up when he met Varya on an international dating site.”
In March 2020, 90 Day fans made a petition telling TLC to remove Geoffrey from Season 4 and all future appearances “due to current allegations and criminal charges made against him.” In response, Geoffrey posted, “I have been repeatedly asked why I would EVER want to be on a show (the best show FYI) where my life would be put in front of everyone to pick apart—especially with my checkered past. Well, guys, it is MY past. It is MY life. It is MY choice. If we were all the same: thought the same, looked the same, or acted the same, how lame would that be?”

Yes, Geoffrey and Varya are still together. In 2023, she shared, “As many of you know, my man is currently serving time in prison. Instead of letting this situation hold me back, I’ve chosen to take a different path. I’ve decided to travel more, explore new horizons, and let the world be my guide.”
Two years later, in September 2025, Varya gave her most recent update, sharing photos of Geoffrey writing, “Happy birthday. Even though we can’t celebrate together today, my heart is with you every moment.”
