Mother’s Day 2026 will be memorable for Today‘s Al Roker in more ways than one.
When it comes to his Mother’s Day plans with his wife, Deborah Roberts, Roker exclusively revealed that they will spend the holiday celebrating their daughter Leila’s big day. “Our daughter, Leila, is getting married, just before Mother’s Day. That Mother’s Day weekend, actually,” he told Swooon while chatting about his PBS Kids series, Weather Hunters. “So, that’s kind of her Mother’s Day gift, I guess.
Leila is the eldest of Roker and Roberts’ two children. They have a younger son, Nick. Roker also shares his eldest child, daughter Courtney, with his late ex-wife, Alice Bell. Last March, Leila announced via Instagram that her now-fiancé, Sylvain Gricourt, had popped the question during a romantic trip to Italy.
Sharing photos of their engagement, she wrote at the time, “8 years ago, I moved to Paris, 7 years ago I met my person and best friend, and 2 days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Al congratulated the happy couple in an Instagram post of his own, writing, “Well, it is now official. @gricourt.thegreat has proposed to my little girl, @leilaroker in the romantic city of Venice. We could not be happier, and look forward to planning for these two wonderful young folks coming together.”
Roker told Swooon that he can’t tease anything about the couple’s nuptials, other than that Gricourt’s family “speaks no English.” He quipped, “We speak very little French, so we’ll get along great.”

During an October 2025 appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark, Roberts hinted that Leila and Gricourt could have two ceremonies. Roker confirmed his wife’s comments, sharing, “Yeah, there are. There’s one there [in France], and then one here. So, the one there is for family and friends who can’t travel, and then the other one is for here, for everybody else.”
Despite the language barrier with Gricourt’s family, Roker knows the wedding will be nothing short of special. “That’s the plan,” he stated.
Ahead of the ceremony, Roker will celebrate Mother’s Day on the small screen with a new episode of his PBS Kids series, Weather Hunters. The Today show host stars as Al Hunter, a father who teaches his kids about the weather. During the show’s May 4 episode, titled “Mother’s Day Rainbow,” the family learns all about rainbows while preparing a Mother’s Day surprise for matriarch Dot Hunter (voiced by Holly Robinson Peete).
“I hope [viewers] recognize themselves in the Hunters, that a gift for mom is something as simple, but yet as beautiful, as a rainbow,” Roker said of the episode. “And this happens to be one of my favorite episodes because you don’t see it a lot in kids’ shows — although I think you are now more — that these are families. The kids aren’t just cracking jokes and stuff like that. Sure, Al Hunter does dad jokes, but everybody loves each other [and] they respect each other.”
He continued, “I think this Mother’s Day episode, I think a lot of families will see themselves in the Hunters, and that’s, I think, what I want people to take away from it. That they see themselves in these characters, and that the show fosters a love and appreciation of not just their family, but also of the world around them, when it comes to our environment, our climate, and the weather. That those things are all intertwined, and that the appreciation of what happens outside your window, both good and bad, is very special.”
