‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Star Caleb Hearon Says Joining the Franchise ‘Feels Like a Total Dream’
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has finally arrived, and while some things haven’t changed at Runway in the 20 years since viewers were last dropped into Miranda Priestley’s (Meryl Streep) world, Andy Sachs’ (Anne Hathaway) return to the company brings into focus the new faces that have filled the space in her absence.
As fans will recall, Andy began at Runway as the second assistant to Miranda, and now that role is being filled by Charlie (a cheery Caleb Hearon). Meanwhile, Amari (Bridgerton‘s Simone Ashley) has assumed the position of first assistant, replacing Emily (Emily Blunt). These new characters are just some of the changes that have been made at Runway in the intervening years, but the biggest is the media landscape itself.
Despite the challenges that Andy and Miranda face as they attempt to solidify Runway‘s legacy as the movie unfolds, their shared drive and the help of this new team propel them forward, heels and all. It’s easy to see how these new assistants approach the gig with a different demeanor than their counterparts, as Miranda’s harsher treatments have been toned down with the changing times.

Even if Miranda was still throwing coats, Hearon would likely have been just as happy to be a part of the ensemble. “It’s so cool, I mean, it’s legitimately a dream come true,” the actor, comedian, and writer tells Swooon. “I watched the first movie when I was an 11-year-old closeted gay kid in Missouri,” he recalls.
“The Devil Wears Prada just means so much to me, and it’s crazy,” Hearon continues. “I’m pretty sure Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original and the sequel, knows me from my work on the internet, and it’s really crazy that I get to be a part of that. I just feel so lucky.”
Hearon was particularly moved when he got to share the process with the cast, noting, “I got to be at the table read watching Meryl Streep make choices about this character in the moment. You’re getting to watch some of the best people at the very top of this thing work in real time; it feels like a total dream.”
