  • The former couple married in 2002 and have three kids together.
  • She opened up about where they stand today as they coparent their children.

The Way Home star Chyler Leigh is sharing insight into her personal life like never before. The actress had a deeply personal conversation on a new Books That Changed My Life podcast episode, which dropped on May 12.

During her candid chat with host Chris Collins, the Grey’s Anatomy alum opened up about her split from her ex-husband, actor and musician Nathan West. Up until now, Leigh had never discussed the end of her marriage.

Collins asked Leigh about the event in her life that finally got her to ask for help. “I think having to get to a point where my relationship with my ex had reached a point where it was just time. It was time to let it go, even after for such a long time. We’d been together, it would be 26 years this year.”

Leigh noted that her breakup was “amicable,” and they’re coparenting their three children. “We’re doing all the things that we can, but [it] just hit a point where it was like, ‘Okay, what you want and what I want aren’t really lining up anymore, and I’d rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger…”

She continued, “It’s not worth it, and when it becomes so abundantly apparent, and the kids are picking up on it, and like the whole family, it just shifts the mood and the dynamic of everything.”

Leigh was candid about how she’d been through “a lot of trauma” with her family in the past, and West had a similar experience. Leading up to the split, she had recognized that they were “just perpetuating that cycle.”

She added, “And so it was like, ‘Okay, we have to make a choice. [We] have to make a decision.'” Leigh didn’t disclose when she and West officially split, nor did she reveal whether or not they have legally divorced.

The former couple first met at an audition for a WB pilot. They married in 2002.
