Al and Lisa Robertson rose to fame as part of the Duck Dynasty family during the show’s original run. Now, the couple’s real-life love story has been turned into a movie: Lifetime’s Faith & Forgiveness: A Duck Dynasty Love Story.
Luke Benward and Haley Ramm play Al and Lisa in their earlier years as they navigate how to move forward after their relationship is tested when Lisa has an affair. Their story has a happy ending, of course. Al and Lisa were able to overcome Lisa’s betrayal, and they’ve been married for over 40 years. Even after decades of marriage, they’re still learning more about each other every day.
“What I learned, especially going through this process again, in terms of telling the story at this depth of level, I just learned again how much I appreciate this woman sitting next to me,” Al told Swooon. “[She] had the fortitude, instead of running away when we were at our darkest hour, she ran towards healing and something better and our marriage. There was a lot of pressure on her in the church and my family. She worked for our business, and so a lot of people would have just bolted. But instead, she leaned into it. And so at the moment, I didn’t really realize it as much, and I think even in our healing process, I didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now, when you have a chance to look back. She has become one of my greatest heroes for that because it made such a difference in our marriage.”

Al admitted that he and Lisa were “kind of nervous” to go to set at first, but they couldn’t have been happier with their experience and how the film turned out. “There was a very pivotal scene in there where she stands in front of the whole church and just like says, ‘I’m a mess,’ and it was very, very powerful,” Al recalled. “And I wasn’t there that day, but to get to see that on the film really touched me. It moved me a lot.”
When looking back at her marriage, Lisa opened up about a specific moment that changed her perspective on the love Al has for her. In 2024, Lisa had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She has reconstruction surgery, which required a significant amount of recovery time.
“It was a very long procedure, and after it was done and I got out of the hospital, I had to have somebody to take care of me. I have lots of friends who are nurses, and they were like, ‘I’ll come over and take care of you.’ And Alan just said, ‘No, this my job. He’s got this.'”
Lisa added, “Intimacy is usually sexual, but this was a whole other level of intimacy because I’m sitting in front of him naked. I’ve got all of these drains coming out of me. I’ve got bandages everywhere, and he just took such sweet care of me. I was never rushed, was never hurried, and he just did a fantastic job. I’ve known that he loved me, but I wasn’t sure… I mean, I know this sounds terrible, but I wasn’t sure if it was a commitment to God first that he loved me. He’s the type of man that, if he says he’s going to do it, he’s going to do it, but I learned that it was more than that, that it would be that he actually loved me and not just the commitment that he made to me.”
