Katie Couric isn’t just celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA championship win — a new addition has joined her family!

The journalist recently shared a photo of herself holding her newborn granddaughter. “Introducing Virginia Louise!” she wrote in the caption of the June 17 Instagram post, which also showed her wearing a Knicks jersey. “Born May 30, 2026. 8lbs 5ounces. With a very happy Gogo.” Couric confirmed that her daughter was doing well after the birth, and that her young grandson, Jay, was “coping” with the development.

So, how many other grandchildren does Couric have? And what do her daughters do, for that matter? Swooon has all the latest updates and details about Couric’s family below.

Who are Katie Couric’s kids?

Couric had two children during her first marriage to Jay Monahan, who died of colon cancer in 1998. The former Today anchor, who married John Molner in 2014, wrote a tribute to Monahan on Instagram. “Although our time together ended far too soon, our love endures, especially in our remarkable daughters,” she said on the anniversary of Monahan’s death in 2025.

Elinor “Ellie” Monahan

Ellie, who was born in 1991, is a screenwriter. She started working in that field after graduating from Yale University and moving to Los Angeles for grad school. She still lives there now and has credits on Mr. Robot and The Boys.

She’s also had her work published in HuffPost. In 2012, she penned an essay about the loss of her father. “Though we suffered that devastating loss at a young age (I was six, my sister only two), we have also been very fortunate to have been brought up by a strong, supportive and loving mother whose friends and coworkers… have and continue to serve as positive role models,” she wrote.

After meeting at Yale, Ellie married Mark Dobrosky on July 4, 2021, a little over two years after he proposed.

On their wedding day, Couric wrote her a message on Instagram.”It seems like yesterday when Ellie was crawling up my body like a little gymnast and doing a back flip off my shoulders. When she wouldn’t take off her Belle dress—ever. When she got her wisdom teeth pulled and was so loopy she asked the dentist to lunch. When she would spin the volleyball before a serve. When she headed off to college where she met a wonderful guy named Mark. When she moved to LA for graduate school…and became a successful TV writer. And on and on. It went by in a flash and today Ellie is getting married to her beloved Jersey boy. My heart is full of unbridled happiness for them both and for all of us who are coming to celebrate their love and life itself. Jay would be so proud.”

Ellie hosted a podcast with her sister called All Each Other Has, which released its latest episode in 2023. They discussed things like “fame by proxy, sleep-away camp in the American imagination, their adolescence of Carnegie Hill etiology, Sontag’s portents of the influencer economy, dialectical thinking, cyberbullies,” and more with an academic lens.

Caroline “Carrie” Monahan

Born in 1996, Carrie graduated from Stanford University in 2018 with a degree in American studies and French. She followed in her mom’s footsteps by studying journalism next, getting her master’s at Columbia University.

From then on, she worked as a journalist and producer in New York with a focus on politics, media, and culture. “From 2019 to 2021, she served as a Reuters fact-check producer for Facebook’s now-defunct third-party fact-checking program, debunking viral disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine roll out as well as the 2020 election and January 6 insurrection,” says her bio.

Carrie also worked on documentaries. Her credits include a project with reporter Ken Auletta on media titan Rupert Murdoch and a film about Honduran migration and narco-trafficking. She was a co-producer on PBS American Masters’ The Incomparable Mr. Buckley in 2024.

Since August 2025, Carrie has been a PhD student at the University of Virginia. According to the school’s website, she’s in the history department, researching “the intersection of postwar hydraulic development and Indian termination policy in rural southeast Oklahoma between 1958 and 1964.”

A little over two years later, Couric shared that she became a grandmother for a second time. “My daughter Ellie had a baby girl on Saturday afternoon,” she wrote on her website. “She came a week early, and I’m glad she did because she weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and was ready to greet the day! Her name is Virginia Louise Dobrosky, and of course, I would think this, but she is beautiful!”

She continued. “I was nervous about her big brother meeting her for the first time — after all, he has spent the last two years and two months as the center of Ellie and Mark’s universe — but while a bit confused, he seemed to be fascinated with his little sister, and I’m sure he will be acclimating soon. He loves pushing around a little baby stroller for dolls (yay to breaking gender roles!) and wanted to put her in his [post]…but his dad said they couldn’t do that quite yet!”
