The Love Hypothesis teaser trailer is coming in hot! After several months of behind-the-scenes glimpses and first looks at the Ali Hazelwood adaptation, fans finally have their first substantial look at Prime Video’s rom-com — and the chemistry between Lili Reinhart‘s Olive and Tom Bateman‘s Adam doesn’t disappoint.
Reinhart and Bateman revealed the teaser trailer at the Los Angeles-based Obsessed Fest on June 27. Prime Video’s inaugural fan event is part of its “Obsession Is In Session” initiative, celebrating young adult storytelling and fandom culture. It makes sense that the adaptation of Hazelwood’s massively popular STEM romance is amongst the titles, which include Every Year After and Off Campus.
The R-rated rom-com, which premieres on Prime Video on September 23, will follow the beats of Hazelwood’s 2021 debut novel. Ph.D. candidate Olive impulsively kisses the ultra-serious professor Adam Carlsen in an attempt to convince her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) that she’s over her old crush, Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay). Olive and Adam agree to a fake relationship with rules and boundaries, but over time, the lines between performance and reality are blurred.

The teaser trailer reveals that a number of standout book moments have made it into the film. First and foremost is Olive and Adam’s iconic first kiss, which is featured on the The Love Hypothesis book’s cover. We’re suckers for a recreated book cover, and the movie scene itself looks exactly like we envisioned in our head. We’re already swooning.
Plus, in a buzzy switch-up from the source material, Adam checks out Olive’s ID badge to find out her name post-kiss. If the movie follows the book, Adam’s pretending. In the prologue set two years before their fake dating starts, Olive crosses paths with Adam, and he instantly becomes obsessed with her. Of course, he doesn’t let her know that right away. (We see right through you, Adam!)
