  • The General Hospital star has a daughter, Katherine.
  • The actress is planning to write a memoir.

Nancy Lee Grahn has been commanding the screen as Alexis Davis on General Hospital for over 20 years. The Daytime Emmy-winning actress recently stopped by the Soapy podcast to discuss her career and opened up about her personal life.

“It’s interesting to me why I’ve stayed single my whole life,” Grahn reflected to hosts Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart as she talked about her upcoming book. The GH star was candid about her love life and how one of Alexis’ most emotional storylines mirrored her own life.

As Grahn discussed her road to motherhood, she brought up her past relationships. When her ex-boyfriend was moving out after their breakup, he asked her what he could do to make this situation better. “I said, ‘You can put sperm in the bank,'” Grahn recalled. At the time, Grahn wanted to become a mother.

The ex did what she asked, but she never ended up using the sperm. “I realized this is not gonna happen the way that I thought it would happen, and it wasn’t for lack of trying,” she admitted.

Grahn started dating someone else for “maybe two months and saw behavior that was unacceptable to me.” She ended the relationship and soon found out she was pregnant. “That person did not want to be involved,” Grahn said. The actress gave birth to her daughter, Katherine, in 1998.

“And then, when she was five, he served me with papers,” Grahn revealed. She didn’t go into too much detail about the custody battle on the podcast, but she did admit that she spent nearly four years fighting her ex. “The court situation is a story that needs to be told,” she added, noting that she will explain it all in her book.

While Grahn was fighting with her ex-boyfriend regarding their daughter, the same thing was happening on General Hospital at the time. Alexis and Sonny (Maurice Benard) were in a custody battle over their daughter, Kristina. Grahn told the Soapy hosts that she “begged” the head writer not to pursue the storyline because of what was going on in her life.
